Hello, my name is Kim Yeonhui.
I was born and raised in Yeosu, a city in the southern part of Korea, and I am currently living in Incheon for university.
During the winter break of my first year in college, I spent two weeks in Uganda, Africa. I had the opportunity to teach students at a local school and organize a sports festival with them. Having grown up in a relatively small city like Yeosu, I initially found the culture and environment of Uganda unfamiliar. However, as I laughed, played, and shared meaningful moments with the children, I began to feel that we were becoming closer beyond differences in language and surroundings.
I still vividly remember running across the playground with them. That experience greatly influenced the direction of my life. After earning my teaching certification in Korea, I hope to return to Africa one day and spend part of my life teaching and growing alongside students there.
Through learning and sharing, I aspire to become a teacher who connects with a wider world.

저는 한국 남쪽의 도시 여수에서 태어나고 자랐으며, 현재는 대학 진학으로 인천에서 생활하고 있습니다.
대학교 1학년 겨울방학 동안 2주간 아프리카 우간다를 다녀왔습니다. 현지 학교에서 아이들을 가르치고, 함께 체육대회를 준비하며 소중한 시간을 보냈습니다. 평생을 여수라는 비교적 작은 도시에서 자라온 저에게 우간다의 문화와 환경은 처음에는 낯설게 느껴졌습니다. 하지만 아이들과 웃고 뛰놀며 마음을 나누는 과정 속에서 언어와 환경의 차이를 넘어 서로가 점점 가까워지고 있다는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다.
지금도 아이들과 함께 운동장을 달리던 순간들이 생생하게 떠오릅니다. 그 경험은 제 삶의 방향에 큰 영향을 주었습니다. 한국에서 교사 자격증을 취득한 뒤, 언젠가는 다시 아프리카로 돌아가 그곳의 학교에서 아이들과 함께 배우고 성장하는 시간을 보내고 싶다는 꿈을 갖게 되었습니다.
앞으로도 배움과 나눔을 통해 더 넓은 세상과 연결되는 교사가 되고 싶습니다.
Introducing My Hometown
As I mentioned earlier, my hometown is Yeosu, a beautiful city in South Korea made famous by the popular song "Yeosu Night Sea." Among many spots in the city, my absolute favorite is the "Soho-dong Dongdong Bridge" near my house.
As you can see in the photos, this place has a completely different vibe depending on the time of day. During the day, you can feel energized by the refreshing ocean view sparkling under the sun. At night, it transforms into a romantic setting with stunning illuminations reflecting off the water. I personally love taking a peaceful walk there during the day or going for a run against the backdrop of the beautiful night scenery.
If you ever visit Yeosu, I highly recommend checking out Soho-dong Dongdong Bridge! There are plenty of great seafood restaurants nearby, so it’s the perfect place to wrap up your day with a delicious dinner. I’ve attached the map below—don’t miss out!

Introducing My Geography Field Trip
1)
Sohodong Dongdong Bridge is a hidden gem that is not widely known among tourists, yet it is one of the best places to fully experience the beauty of Yeosu’s night sea. The area features a walking trail of about 4 kilometers, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll while enjoying the night view or for a light run along the waterfront. While the nighttime scenery is stunning, the daytime view is equally impressive. The combination of the blue sea and the surrounding mountains creates a breathtaking landscape that makes you feel refreshed and open-minded. For this reason, it is a place I always make sure to visit whenever I travel to Yeosu.
소호 동동다리는 관광객들에게 잘 알려지지 않은 명소로 , 여수 밤바다를 제대로 느낄 수 있는 공간이다. 특히 이 주변에는 약 4km 정도 산책길이 있기 때문에 야경을 감상하며 산책을 해도 좋고, 가볍게 러닝을 하기에도 좋다. 또 밤바다의 야경도 아름답지만 낮에 갔을 때 푸른 바다와 조화를 이루는 산의 경관을 보면 마음이 탁 트이기에 여수를 갔을 때 꼭 들르는 장소이다.
2) The Suncheonman National Garden is Korea’s first national garden and is located near Suncheon Bay, one of the world’s five major coastal wetlands. As you explore themed gardens representing different countries, such as the Thai Garden and the Dutch Garden, you can experience the richness and diversity of various cultures. It is also an excellent place to relax and enjoy nature, especially in spring when a wide variety of flowers are in full bloom. Walking through the colorful gardens provides a peaceful and refreshing experience for visitors.
순천만 국가정원은 세계 제 5대 연안습지중 하나인 대한민국 제1호 국가정원이다. 태국정원, 네덜란드 정원 등 나라별로 꾸며진 정원을 보면서 문화의 다양성을 느낄 수 있다. 또 봄에 가면 다양한 꽂들이 만개하고 있기에 걸으며 휴식을 취하기도 좋다.
3) Ungcheon Waterfront Park is an artificial beach located in the heart of the city, making it an ideal place to take a walk by the sea or enjoy water activities during the summer. Right next to the beach is an island called Jangdo, which features exhibition spaces and art studios where visitors can appreciate various works of art.
웅천 친수 공원은 도심 한복판에 만들어진 인공 해수욕장으로, 바다를 보며 산책하거나 여름에는 물놀이를 즐기기 적합한 장소이다. 해수욕장 바로 옆에는 '장도'라는 섬이 있는데, 섬 안에는 전시공간과 스튜디오가 있기 때문에 예술작품을 감상할 수도 있다. 위에서 말했듯 이 해수욕장은 도심 한가운데 위치하고, 또 여수의 중앙부에 위치하기 때문에 도시와 어우러지는 바다의 풍경을 감상하기 좋다.
4) The Jeolla Line Former Railway Park was created as part of an urban regeneration project following the opening of the KTX line connecting Yeosu Expo Station and Iksan Station for the 2012 Yeosu Expo. The old railway tracks were transformed into a public park and walking trail, giving new life to a former transportation corridor.
Stretching approximately 15.7 kilometers, the park offers plenty of space for visitors to walk, jog, or run for as long as they wish. It is also recognized as a successful example of urban regeneration, demonstrating how outdated industrial infrastructure can be repurposed into a recreational and relaxing space for the community.
전라선 옛 철길 공원은 2012년 여수세계박람회 개최를 계기로 전라선 여수엑스포역과 익산역을 잇는 간선철도 구간에 KTX가 개통되며 옛 철길 구간을 도시재생 사업으로 공원화하여 산책로로 만들어진 곳이다. 총 15.7km에 달하기 때문에 자신이 걷고 싶은 만큼 마음껏 걷고 뛸 수 있는 산책 코스이다. 또 도시재생 사업의 성공적인 사례로, 기존의 산업 시설을 어떻게 여가와 휴식의 공간으로 바꿀 수 있는지 알아보기에도 좋은 장소이다.
5) Hwayang-myeon in Yeosu is home to a variety of large cafés, each offering its own unique charm. Visitors can enjoy ocean-view cafés with panoramic views of the sea, as well as cafés surrounded by peaceful rural landscapes. For those who are tired of the fast-paced routines of city life, this area provides an excellent opportunity to relax and unwind while taking in the beauty of nature.
여수시 화양면에는 다양한 대형 카페들이 자리하고 있다. 바다를 한눈에 바라볼 수 있는 오션뷰 카페는 물론, 한적한 농촌 풍경을 즐길 수 있는 카페도 많다. 도심의 바쁜 일상에 지친 사람이라면 이곳에서 자연 경관을 바라보며 여유로운 휴식을 취하기 좋다. 또한 아직 많은 관광객들에게 널리 알려지지 않은 곳이어서 한적하고 조용한 분위기를 느끼고 싶은 이들에게 특히 추천할 만하다.
6) Yeosu is also well known for its excellent food. As a coastal city, it is home to many restaurants that serve dishes made with fresh seafood. In addition, compared to many other regions in Korea, meals in Yeosu are often accompanied by a greater variety of side dishes and more generous table settings, making dining experiences especially satisfying.
If you would like to sample a wide range of seafood or enjoy a hearty Korean-style meal, I recommend visiting Rotary Restaurant in Jungang-dong, the Yeosu Romantic Pocha Street, or one of the many seafood restaurants located near Dolsan. These places offer visitors the opportunity to experience the rich flavors and culinary traditions that make Yeosu a popular destination for food lovers.
여수는 음식이 맛있기로도 유명한 도시이다. 특히 바다를 끼고 있어 신선한 해산물을 활용한 음식점이 많다. 또한 다른 지역에 비해 밑반찬이나 한상차림이 더욱 푸짐하게 나오는 편이라, 식사의 만족도가 높은 편이다. 다양한 해산물을 맛보고 싶거나 푸짐한 한상차림을 즐기고 싶다면 중앙동에 위치한 로타리식당이나 여수 낭만포차거리, 또는 돌산 인근의 해산물 식당들을 추천한다.
