Hello all, My name is Joshua Duceve Enrique Patra and I am a proud scout born in the beautiful country of Suriname. I am a versatile young man who is God-fearing, young and sweet. At 22 years old, I am a student, volunteer, you can say all-rounder and not to mention Scout! Suriname has different people groups and we all live together as brothers and sisters. I am strong, healthy and rich because I take advantage of the sun and the moon. Aren't you too?
This photo was taken on the dike in one of Suriname's 10 districts. We had a bike ride with the somewhat older scout between 14 and 17 called the explorer. Nice view and a place that is peaceful.
These are some pictures of me and my fellow scouts in South Korea. The country is so beautiful and has only sweet people who care about each other. I think the culture and language is unique. If I ever get the chance I would like to go back to South Korea.
I was able to have fun on the grounds of the royal family and his wife. The clothes are terribly beautiful and the grounds are also very neatly maintained. I learned from the king's story that you have to be very consistent, listen and mostly respect each other. Doesn't matter how big or small we are.

  1. Hello Joshua! It's wonderful to hear about your experience in South Korea.
I'd like to learn more about Suriname. What are some of your favorite aspects of Surinamese culture?

    1. Of Surinamese culture, I find diversity most important and beautiful. Some traditional cultures are; the fireworks relay on December 31 and living together despite the different population groups. But most important to me is the culture of which I am part, the Maroon culture. The language (Auccans) is poetic and rituals and dishes make it a very beautiful culture in Suriname. Suriname is a small country and rich in resources and is the greenest country in the world.

    2. The Maroon culture sounds fascinating. Could you tell me more about some of the rituals and dishes that are part of the Maroon culture in Suriname?

    2. Hi Kellen,
The Marrong Group is divided into 7 main tribal groups. What makes the difference with them is the accent when speaking auccaan (a simple example; there is American English and British English). So to answer your question specifically, it is our dialect, culture and traditions and where we came from in the world that makes us different from each other (each one unique in its own way. But we all remain 1 Suriname 🤝). Another example is with the natives and the Marron ; their population is more in our far inland then you have the city creoles (they are called city creoles because they continued to work on the plantations), then you have the Hindu who also then dress and behave differently. All behave differently and have different purposes. But a country full of unity we are.
