Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Choi Eunse (Mozambique) | 034
Mozambique is bordered by the Indian Ocean to the east, where a long coastal plain stretches out. This area is characterized by low, flat terrain. Along the coastline, mangrove forests and wetlands are well-developed, and in the river mouths where the rivers flow into the sea, delta formations are also prominent. Moving west, the terrain rapidly rises, and mountainous regions, including Mount Inago, appear near the border with Zimbabwe.
Hi! It's springtime here in Korea. Since it's April, the weather has become much warmer, with daytime temperatures usually ranging between 15°C and 22°C. It can still be a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, but the afternoons are often sunny and pleasant. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, making the streets incredibly beautiful.
In Korea these days, many people are personally feeling that spring and autumn—two of the four distinct seasons—are becoming shorter, or even disappearing. It used to be that spring brought gentle breezes and blooming flowers, while autumn brought cool air and colorful leaves. But now, those mild seasons seem to pass by too quickly, replaced almost instantly by the heat of summer or the cold of winter.
As the seasonal changes become less clear and more unpredictable, concern about climate change and environmental issues is growing.

In early 2023, Cyclone Freddy, which struck southeastern Africa, was recorded as an unprecedented natural disaster in terms of both scale and duration, vividly revealing the reality of the threat posed by climate change. Mozambique was no exception, suffering significant damage along with other neighboring countries.
Across Africa, more than 600 people lost their lives, and over 1.4 million people were displaced due to the cyclone. The cause of Cyclone Freddy is believed to be
more than just a natural phenomenon; it is considered to be closely linked to climate change. In particular, the rise in sea surface temperatures caused by global warming is thought to have contributed to the formation and intensification of the cyclone.
Mozambique has implemented the National Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (ENAMMC) for the period 2013 to 2025 to actively respond to the growing threats of climate change. This strategy aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities while promoting sustainable development. Its key goals include empowering women and local communities, improving access to climate-related technologies, and encouraging the sustainable use of natural resources. ENAMMC is not only an environmental policy but also a social strategy that integrates climate action with equity and long-term development.
