Hello! I’m Jasmine, an ethics education student at Gyeongin National University of Education in South Korea. While I go to school in Incheon and often spend time in Seoul, my true sense of “home” comes from Gimpo—a peaceful and growing city located just west of Seoul.
Gimpo may not be as famous as Seoul or Busan, but it holds a unique charm. The city is surrounded by rivers, parks, and open skies, and its location makes it both tranquil and incredibly accessible. In fact, Gimpo International Airport is just around the corner, making it easy for anyone to visit, whether from another part of Korea or from abroad.
I live in Janggi-dong, a neighborhood in the Gimpo Hangang New Town area. It’s a place where city life meets nature. One of my favorite places here is Laveniche March Avenue. Inspired by Venice, this canal-side district is filled with cozy cafés, restaurants, and walking paths. People come here with their families, friends, and even their dogs to enjoy a calm and cheerful atmosphere. In the evenings, the lights reflect on the water, and you’ll see groups gathered outdoors, eating, laughing, and simply enjoying life. I often take walks there to clear my mind and feel connected to the community.
Beyond its modern charm, Gimpo also has a deep sense of history. A notable site is Jangneung, the royal tomb of King Injo from the Joseon Dynasty, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visiting this quiet forested area reminds me that the land I walk on holds centuries of stories and traditions.
Living in Gimpo has taught me to appreciate both the small joys of everyday life and the quiet dignity of the past. I hope one day, you’ll get to visit this beautiful city—maybe take a walk with me along the canal, enjoy a meal under the evening lights, and experience the warm spirit that makes Gimpo feel like home.
