Hello! My name is Teresa, a Sejong Global High School student from Korea. It is such an honor to participate in this global project with international buddies from Vietnam.

My hometown is Busan, a city located in the southeastern part of South Korea. Busan is famous for beautiful beach. Whenever I go to my hometown, I smell the sea and refresh myself.

I am interest in multicultural family these days. Recently, I heard that Vietnamese are the most common marriage immigrants. There is still a discriminatory view of international marriages and multicultural families. I want to take this opportunity to study about Vietnam. Also, if there are any misinformation I have, I want to correct it.

Introducing Korea’s education system

Hello! My name is Teresa, a Sejong Global High School student from Korea. It is such an honor to participate in this global project with international buddies from Togo.

In these days I am interested in education system. Today, I want to introduce Korea’s education system.

The Korean school system is comprised of a 6-3-3-4 single ladder system, 6 years in elementary schools, 3 years in middle schools, 3 years in high schools, and 4 years in university or 2 to 3 years at a junior college.

The first academic semester begins in March, and the second academic semester at the end of August. Summer vacations are typically in July to August, and winter vacation in December to February.

Elementary and middle schools are compulsory education. In accordance with the principle of equal educational opportunity, all citizens receive primary, secondary, and higher education according to their abilities, regardless of their social status or position.

This is Korea’s education system. I am soooooo curious about Vietnam education system. If someone sees my post, pls answer!!!

Korea's Digital Education System

Today, I want to explain Korea's digital education system. With the advancement of technology, various online education platforms have begun to develop. Students can study at various places such as homes, cafes, and libraries through smartphones, laptops, and computers. From now on, I will introduce the online learning platform that I use a lot in Korea!

The first platform I will introduce is EBS. EBS is a public education broadcaster that provides online educational content along with TV broadcasts, and offers free lectures from elementary school to high school. There are not only basic subjects such as math and English, but also various kinds of subjects such as Korean, science, social studies, Korean history, Japanese, and Chinese. I sometimes get help from EBS when I don't understand my school class.

The second platform I will introduce is K-MOOC. This platform is a Korean online open course, and in cooperation with universities and educational institutions, various university lectures are provided for free online. Actually, since I'm a high school student, I don't know what kind of lectures college students take, so I got to know this platform for the first time. When I went to the site in person, they offered various kinds of courses such as humanities, social studies, engineering, arts and sports, and medicine.

The last platform I will introduce is LMS. LMS stands for Learning Management System. The two platforms I introduced earlier are simply listening to lectures, while LMS is a system that manages students' grades, progress, and attendance online. First of all, this platform helps you analyze data. After easily grasping students' learning patterns, changes in grades, and participation, improve your class based on this information and come up with strategies for each student. In addition, this platform can increase students' participation, and in many ways, such as online discussions, quizzes, and assignments, make them interested and actively participate in class.

So far, I've learned about Korea's online education platform. I was curious about the online education system in Vietnam, so I searched it, and there were things like VNEdu and Viettel Study. There is also a reason why technology is developing, but as there are a lot of infectious diseases these days, there are many situations where you have to study at home, so I think the importance of online education has increased. I want to know more about Vietnam's online education system! If you have a Vietnamese friend who saw this article, I would be very happy to answer!

Introducing Korea's School Uniforms

Wearing a pretty school uniform makes school life fun, I also enjoy wearing a pretty school uniform every day. So this time, I want to introduce my country's school uniform!

First of all, it's a Korean uniform. In the past, most men wore pants and women wore skirts. But these days, people wear relatively comfortable pants and T-shirts. Some schools have strict rules, but some schools allow ordinary clothes! My school also allows me to wear my own clothes, but I tend to wear them because they are pretty. The pictures below are from my school.

I'm curious about the characteristics of Vietnam's school uniforms. I searched it, and there are many pretty school uniforms! Also, if you have friends from other countries who read this, please tell me about your country's school uniforms! Then have a nice day!

Trying to sort out my curiosity so far! - PART 1

<Vietnam’s education system>

I looked up Wikipedia, and in Vietnam, they generally have 12 years of education and are divided into three levels: level 1 (elementary school), level 2 (middle school), and level 3 (high school). I thought that was very similar to Korea!

1) Elementary school

I heard that elementary school starts at 6 and ends at 10 years old. I was a little surprised in Korea because they go to elementary school from 8 to 13 years old based on Korean age, but I think it's similar based on the international age! The difference is that we go to elementary school for 6 years, but Vietnam for 5 years. I think the subjects I learn are mostly similar, such as math, science, history, society, music, art, and physical education.

2) Middle school

I found out that middle school consists of four levels from 6th to 9th grades. I think this is the difference between Korea and 3 years of middle school. I searched it and found that Hoa ̣ đ ̣ ̂ng Traghie ̣ ̂m in 2021, and I'm also curious about what this is! I found it on the Internet that they also offer vocational education, but we also learn a subject called 'career'. This seems to have something in common, too!

3) High school

I found out that high school in Vietnam goes to the same high school as Korea for 3 years. It was amazing that the subjects we learn were similar to ours, but the subjects of defense and security education were added, and music and art were removed. Other than that, they're similar to us! The picture I put in below is Tru ̛ ̛̀ng THPT Nguyê ̃ ̣ Thi ̣ Minh Khai, one of the best high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, and I think the building is really pretty!

So far, I learned about Vietnam's education system. It's generally similar to ours, but there are differences in some areas. I think I was able to learn more about Vietnam through this opportunity!

Trying to sort out my curiosity so far PART 2

<Vietnam’s Digital Education System>

I would like to introduce the Digital Education System in Vietnam today. I explained about the Digital Education System in Korea in early July, and I am writing this because I want to learn more about the online education system in Vietnam! Just like Korea, the online education system in Vietnam was developed during COVID-19.

1. Online Program in Public Education in Vietnam

The first thing I recognized was VnEdU. This is a widely used online education program in Vietnam's public education system. I heard that it provides a system for parents, students, and teachers to track learning activities and manage assignments in real time.

The second thing I noticed is K12Online. It's a learning management system that many elementary, middle, and high school students use. This program has the ability to take classes, submit assignments, and take exams remotely.

2. Online Programs in Private Education in Vietnam

The first thing I noticed was the Topica Edtech Group. This program, unlike the ordinary education program, is mainly aimed at adults. This program offers various degree programs and job training for adults. Some explain that it is a program that is often used not only in Vietnam but also throughout Southeast Asia.

The second thing I noticed is Hocmai.vn . This program is an online learning platform for ages from elementary to high school. Video lectures are provided in many subjects such as math, science, and English, and most of them are tailored to textbooks

3. other online programs

The programs I described above are mainly used in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. I looked up what programs were used in Vietnam among the programs used in Korea, and it was amazing that Zoom and Google Meet were also used in Vietnam!

Today, I learned about online education in Vietnam. Next time, I will find out about school uniforms in Vietnam and introduce them to you!!! I hope you can let me know if I have provided the wrong information or if there is any missing information!

    1. On weekends, we go acedemie or something. Somtimes we go family trip or play with friends. On special holiday like new year and christmas, we write cards for our family and friends. I think there's nothing special about school. But somehow we decorate our classroom on special holiday.

    2. It’s okay, hagwon sounds really interesting it’s obligatory? Is there something like theater, dance, music or art in the school schedules?

    3. It is not obligatory, but most students go hagwon, especially as students get older. There are music, art, and P.E. in school schedules. We often watch movies after exams. Students who want to dance join the school dance club and dance at lunchtime, after school, and so on.
