ReplyDeleteWell, to begin with, why only Brazil speaks Portuguese in South America?
ReplyDeleteSo, this started when Europe was "discovering" the Americas. Portuguese ships were the first to arrive in Brazil, resulting in the introduction of Portuguese from Portugal into our language. Countries like Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, etc., were colonized by Spanish colonists, who tried to dominate Brazilian territory anyway, but ended up losing to the Portuguese. As incredible as it may seem, our vocabulary is similar, so we can easily understand each other.
In 2016, the city of Rio de Janeiro hosted the Olympic Games for the first time. Currently, there is much discussion about the influence of this phenomenon on Brazilians' relationship with sport, as it is a tool for participation and inclusion in society. In this context, historical, as well as social, factors characterize the dilemma of sporting practice in the country.
During the classical Greek period, city-states organized themselves into Olympics, which promoted temporary peace among the Greeks and allowed cultural integration. During the military dictatorship, Brazil found itself in a government with exacerbated patriotic ideals that bordered on jingoism. With the conquest of the World Cup, Brazilian football served as a political tool in that period. As a result, this practice had more encouragement compared to others. With regard to sport as a means of social inclusion, it is possible to state that there is no isonomic investment in this area. This is evidenced not only by an overvaluation of a single sport, but also by the sponsoring entities only targeting the profit.
