Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Oh Chae eun (Yemen) | 028

Most of Yemen consists of alpine and mountainous regions. In particular, the Yemen Plateau, which includes the Sana'a and Taiz regions, is the country's main mountainous region, a plateau located more than 2,500 m above sea level. The region has a relatively mild climate, and Yemen's capital, Sana, is also located in the region, serving as a hub for transportation and economic activity.
Eastern Yemen is part of the Arabian Desert, which is characterized by its dry and hot climate. This area is covered by deserts, so cultivated land or densely populated areas are rare. Examples include the Almarmr Desert and the Rubi Alkali Desert.
I'm curious about agriculture, people's lifestyle, or historical significance in plateau of Yemen. And the ecosystem of the desert or the animals and plants in this area.
I want a picture wuth a panoramic view of the plateau. I want to know about mountainous scenery, high-altitude villages, and agricultural landscapes on the plateau. I also want to know if there is any unique architecture or historical place on the plateau. I also want a picture of the wide and vast desert landscape. For example, I want to see a sand dune or a scene of sunrise/sunset in the desert. I want to compare the difference between people's lives in the desert and mine. Can you send me these pictures of Yemen's unique topography?
The weather in Korea is getting closer to spring these days. It is getting warmer. As spring approaches, flowers are blooming and plants are growing. However, since it is still early spring, the daily temperature difference between morning, daytime, and night is large, so it is easy to catch a cold. It is warm spring weather around lunchtime, but it is chilly at night, so make sure to bring your outerwear when you go out.
It once snowed in Korea at the end of March this year. March in Korea is spring. The temperature lowered enough to snow means that there is an abnormality in the climate. In addition, Korea is a country with four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. However, as time goes by, summer and winter are getting longer and spring and fall are getting shorter. This means that an abnormal climate is occurring due to global warming. Global warming is already continuing, but I argued that there are problems that need to be solved personally and put into practice in order to prevent it from progressing.
The Yemenite government has ratified several international environmental treaties emphasizing its commitment to sustainability. These agreements include the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). In its National Determination Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC, Yemen outlined its goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change despite ongoing conflict. Domestically, Yemen has developed national policies and systems that aim to protect the environment, including the Environmental Protection Act and the National Strategy for Sustainable Development. The Yemeni Environmental Protection Agency (YEPA) is the main government agency that coordinates and oversees environmental programs and initiatives. However, the effective implementation of these policies remains a limitation due to the unstable political environment.
The government has expressed interest in developing solar and wind energy projects to take advantage of the country's abundant sunlight and favorable wind conditions. Plans, such as Yemen's National Renewable Energy Strategy, aimed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by increasing renewable energy's contribution to the national energy mix. In addition, several pilot projects have been launched in cooperation with international donors and organizations, for example, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has supported the installation of solar microgrids in rural communities. This not only provides clean energy, but also demonstrates the viability of renewables in Yemen, providing an initiative for large-scale deployments across the country in the future.
Several pilot projects were launched in Yemen in cooperation with international donors and organizations, among them, what clean energy was provided by installing solar microgrids in rural communities and we would like to know more about the viability of renewable energy.
