Hello, my name is Jieun Ku, and I’m a third-year student majoring in Elementary Education. I was born in Bundang and grew up in Yongin.
Yongin, where I live, has a very cute mascot named 'Joayong,' which is a dragon. I believe this mascot was created because the word 'Yong' in Yongin means "dragon" in Korean. Also Yongin is home to "Everland," one of Korea’s most famous theme parks. If you ever come to Korea, I hope you’ll have a chance to visit!
One of my favorite places is the park. I love experiencing the changing scenery, the different people, and the atmosphere depending on the season. When I’m busy with my daily life, going to the park and seeing the peaceful and relaxed people there helps me feel at ease. Especially when I go with my family, we’re able to recall old memories and create new ones together.
I have traveled a lot since I was young, thanks to my parents who love traveling. Even now, I travel abroad often, but I've never been to the African continent, so I am curious about Africa. Although I don't know much about it yet, I am very interested in African history and would like to learn more about it in the future.
Also as a prospective teacher, I want to learn about areas that are not often mentioned in the Korean curriculum and introduce them to my students. Rather than focusing only on specific continents or countries like Europe or the United States, I want to help students broaden their perspectives by learning about various countries around the world. For this reason, I have developed an interest in the African continent, which is not often covered in Korean schools, and I wish to explore it further.
Out of all the African countries, I’m particularly interested in Uganda. Recently, I went on a teaching practicum to Chadwick International School in Incheon. Since it was Uganda's national day, Ugandan teachers introduced Uganda to students during assembly. We watched videos about the country and even sang their national anthem together. Since I didn’t know much about Uganda, everything felt new to me, and I was so fascinated by the country that I started thinking about visiting there one day. I’m also interested in Liberia. I once heard about the country’s painful history. I’d like to learn more about it. Also, I am curious about the current political situation in Uganda and Liberia.
I had the opportunity to research Congo and I found geographical features and food culture of Congo are very interesting. I would love to visit Congo someday.

안녕하세요. 경기도 용인에 살고 있는 초등교육과 3학년 구지은입니다. 저는 분당에서 태어나 용인에서 자랐습니다.
제가 살고 있는 용인은 정말 귀여운 마스코트를 가지고 있습니다. 이 마스코트의 이름은 '조아용'으로 용입니다. 용인의 '용'이 한국어로는 dragon이라는 의미이기에 이러한 마스코트가 생겼다고 알고 있습니다. 또한 용인에는 한국의 대표적인 놀이공원인 '에버랜드'가 있습니다. 여러분이 한국에 오게 된다면 꼭 이곳을 방문했으면 좋겠습니다.
제가 좋아하는 공간은 공원입니다. 계절에 따라 다른 풍경, 사람들의 모습, 공기를 느끼는 것을 좋아합니다. 바쁜 일상을 보내는 와중에 공원에 가서 평화롭고 여유로운 사람들의 모습을 보면 저에게도 여유가 찾아오는 것 같습니다. 특히 가족들과 공원에 가면 이전의 기억을 떠올리며 새로운 추억을 쌓기도 합니다.
저는 여행 다니는 것을 좋아하시는 부모님 덕분에 어릴 적부터 여행을 많이 다녔습니다. 지금도 해외여행을 많이 다니지만 아프리카 대륙은 한 번도 가본 적이 없어 아프리카에 대해 호기심을 가지고 있습니다. 아직 잘 알지는 못하지만 아프리카의 역사에도 관심이 많아 앞으로 더 많이 알아가고 싶습니다.
더불어 저는 예비교사로서 한국의 교육과정에는 잘 언급되지 않는 곳들을 배우고, 학생들에게도 소개해주고 싶습니다. 학생들이 유럽, 미국과 같이 특정 대륙, 나라에 대해서만 배우기보다는 세계 다양한 나라에 대해 배우고 시야를 넓힐 수 있도록 도움을 주고 싶습니다. 그렇기에 저는 한국의 학교에서는 잘 배우지 않는 아프리카 대륙에 관심을 가지게 되었고, 더 알아가고 싶습니다.
저는 아프리카 대륙의 나라 중에서도 우간다에 특히 관심이 많습니다. 얼마 전 인천에 위치한 채드윅 국제학교로 교육실습을 갔는데 마침 우간다의 국경일과 겹쳐 Assembly에서 우간다 출신 선생님들께서 우간다에 대해 소개해주시고, 우간다의 영상도 보고, 함께 국가도 부르는 시간을 가졌습니다. '우간다'라는 나라를 잘 알지 못했기에 모든 것이 새롭게 느껴졌고 우간다의 매력에 매료되어 언젠가 우간다에 꼭 가보고 싶다는 생각을 하게 되었습니다. 또한 저는 라이베리아에도 관심이 있는데, 우연히 라이베리아의 마음 아픈 역사에 대해 들은 적이 있습니다. 조금 더 알아가고 배우고 싶은 마음이 있습니다. 더불어 우간다와 라이베리아의 정세에 대해서도 궁금합니다.
이번에 수업에서 콩고에 대해서 조사해볼 기회가 있었는데 콩고의 지리적 특성과 식문화도 매우 흥미로워 한 번쯤 콩고에 가보고 싶습니다.
이렇게 여러분과 소통할 수 있는 기회를 얻게 되어 정말 기쁩니다. 서로에게 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다.
