Seonil Elementary School is an elementary school located in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, which opened in 1993. The school motto is “Children who dream with a kind heart and an open mind.” Currently, 432 students attend the school, which consists of 23 classes.
The school’s educational goals are as follows: (1) to develop capable students who explore and put their knowledge into practice, (2) to foster creative students who think in new ways, (3) to nurture students who appreciate diverse cultures, and (4) to encourage democratic students who communicate and care for others.
One distinctive feature of Seonil Elementary School compared to other schools is its multicultural education. A special class for multicultural students was established in 2015, and the school was designated as an International Innovation School specializing in multicultural education in 2017.
Due to Ansan’s regional characteristics, including its large concentration of industrial complexes, the city has a higher proportion of foreign immigrants than many other areas. Among the various cultural backgrounds represented at Seonil Elementary School, the school pays particular attention to Russian-speaking students. Russian-speaking assistant teachers are available in classrooms to help with translation. They support communication between teachers and students, helping reduce the burden on both sides.
