GGS Edu-Platform Expands to Seoul National University from GINUE

The Global Citizenship Education platform developed by Gyeongin National University of Education (GNUE) has expanded into a new model of international educational collaboration through GEO Renaissance 2026, held at Seoul National University.
Jointly hosted by the Graduate School of International Studies and the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University, the event showcased how geography, global citizenship education, and international cooperation can be integrated into a new educational platform for the AI era.
The program was built upon an international exchange platform established by Professor Kim Eje and the Geographical Imagination Research Institute (GIRI) at GNUE since 2023. Through a wide range of educational and international exchange programs, GIRI has connected young people from Korea and around the world while developing practical models of Global Citizenship Education.
One of the highlights of the event was the expanded presentation of Seeds of HOPE, an international youth exchange initiative first introduced during GNUE's Public Diplomacy Festival in 2025.
Students from Gyeongin National University of Education, Seoul National University, and Handong Global University, together with international students from Egypt, Iran, India, and Uganda, participated in discussions on global citizenship, intercultural understanding, and educational collaboration.
A particularly inspiring presentation was delivered by Adelia, a young Indonesian entrepreneur and former participant in the Korean television program Reading Maps (KBS). Having participated in GNUE's Public Diplomacy Festival, she now operates a beauty-related business while supporting the expansion of Korean consumer products into Indonesia and other international markets.
She emphasized that:
"Understanding local cultures and regions is one of the most important competitive advantages in international business."
The event also welcomed online participation from previous Seeds of HOPE award recipients, including Alice from Brazil and Aksu from Azerbaijan, highlighting the growing international network established through the program.
Students participated in a variety of educational activities, including:
- The Geographer's Table, an experiential geography program exploring world climate regions through food;
- the Seeds of HOPE Exhibition;
- international exchange and mentoring sessions;
- discussions on Geographic Literacy and Global Citizenship.
According to GNUE Vice President Kim Jae-woon, the university is actively exploring how its international education platform—now connected with participants from more than 170 countries—can be integrated into teacher education.
"We will continue to prepare future teachers who possess the competencies required for global citizenship and international education."
GEO Renaissance 2026 demonstrates how geography can move beyond traditional classroom teaching to become a platform connecting education, international exchange, public diplomacy, and global citizenship.
The initiative reflects a growing vision of Public Geography—one that equips future generations with the geographic literacy needed to understand an increasingly interconnected world.

경인교육대학교는 최근 대학이 추진한 세계시민교육 및 공공외교 활동이 서울대학교를 무대로 확장되며 국제교육 협력의 새로운 모델을 제시하고 있다고 8일 밝혔다.
지난 5일 서울대 국제대학원과 환경대학원이 공동 개최한 '지오 르네상스 2026'은 경인교대가 운영한 세계시민교육 및 국제교류 프로그램의 성과를 공유하고 발전 방향을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
행사는 김이재 경인교대 교수와 산하 지리적상상력연구소(GIRI)가 2023년부터 운영한 국제교류 플랫폼을 기반으로 진행됐다. 연구소는 국내외 청년을 연결하는 다양한 프로그램을 통해 세계시민교육의 실천적 모델을 구축했으며 이를 바탕으로 대학 간 협력과 국제 네트워크를 확대하고 있다.
지난해 경인교대 공공외교 축제에서 처음 선보인 '씨즈 오브 호프'(Seeds of HOPE) 프로젝트는 이번 행사에서 더욱 발전된 형태로 소개됐다. 행사에는 경인교대를 비롯해 서울대, 한동대 학생들과 이집트, 이란, 인도, 우간다 출신 유학생들이 참여했다.
특히 인도네시아 출신 청년 기업가 아델리아씨의 사례 발표가 눈길을 끌었다. KBS '지도 읽어드립니다' 출연자이자 지난해 경인교대 공공외교 축제 참가자인 아델리아씨는 현재 뷰티 관련 기업을 운영하며 한국 화장품과 소비재의 인도네시아 및 미주 시장 진출을 돕고 있다. 그는 "문화와 지역에 대한 이해가 국제 비즈니스의 핵심 경쟁력"이라며 글로벌 시대에 필요한 지역 이해의 중요성을 강조했다.
지난해 '씨즈 오브 호프' 프로젝트 우승자로 한국을 방문한 앨리스씨(브라질)와 아제르바이잔 출신 악수씨는 온라인으로 함께했다. 경인교대 학생들은 △지리학자의 식탁 △씨즈 오브 호프 전시 △국제교류 프로그램 등에 참여하며 세계시민으로서의 역량을 함양했다.
김재운 경인교대 부총장은 "세계 170여개국과 연결된 국제교육 플랫폼이 교원양성 교육과정과 어떻게 융합될 수 있을지에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다"며 "앞으로도 예비교사들이 세계시민 역량을 갖춘 미래 교육자로 성장할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.
