Hello. I am Hyeongju Jin from Belgium.
If you want to know more about me, please refer to my introduction on this Handong Platform.

1. Home (지역의 환경문제 파악)
The
Cafeteria Discard Zone at Handong Global University At the main student cafeteria tray-return zone, a
critical recycling gap exists. While the university generally promotes waste
segregation, the high-traffic tray-return area is equipped with only a single,
massive general waste bin. As a result, recyclable items—specifically plastic
yogurt containers and beverage bottles served with meals—are mixed directly
with general waste, leading to a complete breakdown of the recycling chain at
its most critical bottleneck.
2.
Objective (환경문제의 원인 파악)
Spatial
Constraints and Infrastructure Deficit The root cause is not student apathy, but structural
failure. Due to the narrow and crowded nature of the tray-return lane, priority
was given to speed of disposal rather than environmental correctness. The lack
of adjacent, clearly labeled recycling bins forces hurried students to default
to the single available general waste bag, creating an institutional
"forced littering" environment.
3. Plan (환경문제의 해결책)
The
Dual-Bin Nudge and Visual Guidance System We propose a space-optimized "Dual-Bin
System" directly flanking the tray-return station. Even within cramped and
crowded corridors, slim-profile recycling units can be installed. This will be
accompanied by an intuitive, high-visibility graphic guidance system placed at
eye level, allowing students to rinse and separate plastic items in less than 3
seconds without disrupting the foot traffic flow.
4. Execute
(해결책 실천 및 실행 방안)
Student-Led
Institutional Action
To transform this into reality, We should formally submit a comprehensive
policy proposal to the Handong Student Government and the University Operations
Bureau. We will launch a 2-week pilot project in collaboration with campus
environmental clubs to monitor the purity of the collected recyclables. Once
proven effective, we will mandate this infrastructure across all dining
facilities on campus.
