Eco-Habits in Ulaanbaatar: Rethinking Plastic Bags and Short Drives
Problems : As someone who grew up in Mongolia, I noticed that we rely heavily on disposable products in our daily lives. Whenever I go shopping at local stores, they give out so many plastic bags without hesitation, and few people think to bring their own. On top of that, many people tend to drive personal cars even for very short distances that could easily be walked. These small, everyday habits accumulate and contribute to the waste issues and air pollution in our cities.
Solvings : To tackle these everyday issues, we could suggest a campus or community campaign that encourages carrying a simple reusable tote bag. Stores could also start encouraging this by offering small discounts to customers who bring their own bags. For the driving habit, it would be a great idea to introduce a "Walk for the Sky" challenge, where people are motivated to walk instead of drive for trips under 10 minutes. These small shifts in our daily routines could gradually reduce plastic waste and help clear our skies.
