Hello! My name is Kalunga Julia.
I'm 23 years old and I'm from Gabela, Angola. But I lived most of my life in Luanda, the capital city of Angola. I have been in Korea since 2022.
I love Neurosciences and Cinema because of the way they can help you get a perspective of the world. Cinema for example, can connect us to culture and places we have never been in our entire lives; It can make people that are very far feel very close to us.
I am really interested in how Cognitive Sciences play a major role in how we connect with different people and cultures. I'm fluent in Portuguese and English; Intermediate level in Korean and Spanish and Beginner level in French.
I'm a Global Korea Scholarship awardee from Angola and through this fully-funded scholarship (from the Korean Government) I'm studying Life Sciences and doing a minor in Brain Cognitive Sciences at Ewha Womans University in Seoul. I want to become a researcher in Cognitive Sciences to bring awareness about the cognitive aspects of Indigenous Cultures around the world.
Besides researching, I also travel around Korea, since 2022 I have been in Busan, Gimchon, Daegu and Gyeoggi-do. I also do volunteer work. I did Coal Briquettes volunteering with one club from my university. I also volunteered with Klein Geluk in Seoul, helping in their 'Good Housing Project' with the goal of renovating houses for marginalized communities, mainly victims of domestic violence.
Back in my country I volunteered with Cinephiles and Literatus, a non-profit association dedicated to organize free of charge Cinema sessions in different locations in Angola. In England, I volunteered for the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust at the Krisnamurti Center in Brockwood Park. The center is a retreat site in the countryside so many people from around the world visit it to rest and reflect on their lives.
I'm really passionate about meeting new people and being introduced to new cultures and new ways of perceiving the world.
My goal is to help people know more about how each African country has its own cultures and how these cultures are very organized, beautiful and interesting.
