The 2025 Great Geography Society (GGS) Summer School participants — Aupal Emmanuel, Steven Chan, Tah Ni Cole, and Chebet Elleen from Uganda, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Kenya respectively — together with Manuel Spiller, a 2025 GG Mentor and experienced geographer, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday, 21st August 2025. Public diplomacy visits form part of the Summer School program organized annually by GGS in collaboration with GIRI.
The engagements lasted for several hours. Diplomat Zondi Chilembo delivered a presentation on Zambia, highlighting its geography, major attractions such as wildlife and Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World), as well as cultural traditions including the Kuomboka Ceremony.
Diplomat Bright Simbaya then responded to questions from participants and Korean students interested in learning more about Zambia.

The delegation was later addressed by Ambassador H.E. Andrew Bwezani Banda, who spoke on Zambia’s independence, its role in the global political landscape, Zambia–Korea relations, and the importance of economic diplomacy in strengthening ties. He emphasized the vital role of education in Africa’s development and the need for Zambia to draw lessons from Korea’s progress while promoting greater exchanges between the two nations — including youth programs, scholarship opportunities, and tourism initiatives.
He concluded with Zambia’s national motto, “One Zambia, One Nation,” first proclaimed by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as a symbol of unity and peace. The Ambassador noted that the motto not only unites Zambia’s 73 ethnic groups but also carries a vision of uniting Africa for the common good.
