Bulgok Middle School: A Place of Tradition, Growth, and Excitement
Bulgok Middle School has been nurturing students for over thirty years, giving it a proud and long-standing history. The school’s three symbolic emblems—the ginkgo tree, the rose, and the magpie—represent its spirit and values. Its educational vision centers on character, intelligence, and emotion, aiming to cultivate well-rounded students through a cooperative, encouraging, and joyful school environment.
Facilities and Daily Life
The school offers a wide variety of facilities for both academic and recreational purposes. Students enjoy a fully equipped gym, a ping pong room, a basketball court, and a dodgeball court. Regular sports league games and special sports days promote harmony and teamwork, while outdoor enthusiasts gather after lunch for games of their choice.

Bulgok Middle School’s cafeteria is also a source of pride, reflecting Korea’s rich food culture. Meals are both nutritious and delicious, with special birthday menus each month. Lunch is served buffet style, offering tasty dishes such as samgyetang, stir-fried udon, and chicken, with plenty of food to allow seconds.
The school’s two libraries—English Planet and the general library—encourage students to enhance literacy and broaden knowledge, hosting various events to spark interest in reading.
Uniform and Student Style
Students have three uniform options:
Long-sleeved shirt and pants for spring and autumn
Short-sleeved shirt and pants for summer
Daily clothes for everyday school life and P.E. classes
Most students prefer daily clothes for comfort, wearing them year-round except for formal events such as graduation ceremonies.
Clubs and Extracurricular Opportunities
Bulgok Middle School offers two types of clubs:
Career clubs (mandatory) – 39 options as of 2025, covering diverse fields
Autonomous clubs (voluntary) – 10 options, with students free to create new ones
One notable career club is Culture Bridge, where students interested in English and the Anglosphere improve their language skills and cultural understanding through exchange programs and research. This club system plays a key role in preparing students for their future.
Special Events and Festivals
The Bulgok Sports Festival takes place every May, organized by students themselves. Events are divided into indoor competitions—like bowling and flipping plates—and outdoor games such as group jump rope, stick running, tug-of-war, and relay races. Highlights include a performance by the dance club Lunatic and a unique one-hour volunteer activity recorded in students’ life records.
Another major highlight is the Hanul Festival, formerly known as the Bulgok Festival. In 2025, the name was changed based on student opinions. During the festival, each class decorates its classroom according to a theme, and students showcase talents in activities like The Masked Singer and Narak Quiz Show. Performances from other schools are also featured, creating a lively and friendly atmosphere. The Hanul Festival helps students relieve academic stress and strengthens bonds across the school community.

Hello everyone. I'm Brian Mndzebele from Eswatini🇸🇿. It is so nice to learn about the school’s three symbolic emblems—the ginkgo tree, the rose, and the magpie. It shows the importance of history and passing that history from generation to generation. It is really nice. In my country the flag colour's also have a meaning. Red symbolizes the battles fought in the past, blue represents peace and stability, and yellow signifies the country's natural resources. The black and white shield with spears and a staff, centered on the red stripe, represents protection and the peaceful coexistence of people of all races.

I really enjoyed reading about your school, and I think it’s really interesting how much tradition and history it has. The three emblems—the ginkgo tree, rose, and magpie—sound very meaningful.
Your school facilities also sound amazing! Having a gym, basketball court, ping pong room, and dodgeball court must make school life really fun 🏀🏓. I also love doing sports, so I think it would be great to join in your games and activities.
