"I am very satisfied with the history and culture experience program in Korea. If I have the opportunity to visit Korea again, I would like to try experiences unique to Korea."
A Scout participant who returned from Saemangeum to Suwon University expressed this sentiment regarding their participation in the experience program on the 9th.
The program, organized by Suwon University, began with a visit to Yung and Geonreung in the morning of the 9th. In the afternoon, the participants were divided into two teams, with one team enjoying a cable car tour of the West Sea and visiting our flower botanical garden to experience the beauty of Korean nature. The other team visited the Kia Motors factory.
Finally, they gathered at the outdoor performance venue of Suwon University to watch the 'Hwaseong Paltan Minyo' performance, where they had the opportunity to experience traditional Korean folk music and instruments.
Despite the rain on the 10th due to the influence of Typhoon No. 6, the Scout participants were provided with indoor experience programs prepared by local governments and universities, allowing them to fully enjoy the taste and charm of Gyeonggi Province and Korea.
88 Scout participants staying at Suwon University and Jangan University dormitories visited Yongjusa Temple, the headquarters of the second district of the Jogye Order, to experience temple stay. They also had lunch provided through Buddhist ritual alms.
At Suwon Traditional Culture Center, they learned traditional etiquette such as archery and bowing, and participated in making traditional Korean rice cakes. Especially during the rice cake making experience, the participants listened attentively to the guide's instructions while smiling.
Various performances were also prepared to uplift the Scout participants. At the Gyeonggi Convention Center in Suwon, the Suwon Municipal Performance Group's Mu-ye 24th performance took place. Mu-ye 24th is a martial arts performance that reconstructs 18 types of ground martial arts and 6 types of equestrian martial arts from the Joseon Dynasty, presenting traditional martial arts performed by masters in traditional attire wielding swords and knives, eliciting admiration from the audience.
Suwon City held an evening bowling performance for the Scouts staying in the area. Additionally, busking teams were sent to the lodgings of the Scout participants at four locations, where they performed in the lobby for about an hour starting from 7:30 p.m.
A Suwon city official expressed hopes that Scouts from various countries staying in Suwon would carry back fond memories and warm experiences from their time in the city.
On another note, the 40,000 Scouts participating in this year's World Scout Jamboree will conclude their schedule in Korea with the '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree K-pop Super Live' concert scheduled to take place at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the afternoon of the 11th.
