Hello. I am Hyeongju Jin from Belgium.

1. Home (지역의 환경문제 파악)
Chronic Energy Waste in Empty Classrooms on Global Campuses A pervasive environmental issue across university campuses worldwide is the massive drain of electricity in empty classrooms. After lectures conclude, students and professors frequently rush out, leaving lights, high-powered air conditioners, and large TV displays running in completely vacant rooms for hours, leading to invisible but immense carbon emissions.
2. Objective (환경문제의 원인 파악)
The 'Bystander Effect' and Cognitive Inertia in Transitional Spaces The root cause is a mix of cognitive inertia and the "bystander effect." In the rush between back-to-back classes, individuals simply forget to turn off appliances. Furthermore, because a classroom is a shared public space, people suffer from a diffusion of responsibility, assuming that "someone else" or the campus facility staff will take care of it.
3. Plan (환경문제의 해결책)
An Automated, Data-Driven Low-Power Shutdown System Instead of relying on human vigilance, we propose an automated eco-system that acts as an invisible guardian. By synchronizing the classroom’s electrical grid with the university's official timetable network, the system will identify non-lecture hours. If a classroom is in a non-lecture state and detects zero environmental change for over 30 minutes, a low-power monitoring system will trigger an absolute shutdown of all utilities.
4. Execute (해결책 실천 및 실행 방안)
Timetable Integration and AI Motion-Sensor Deployment We can execute this through a two-phased engineering approach:
- Phase 1 (Data-Driven): Program the campus facility
management software to automatically cut power to non-essential classroom
grids 30 minutes after the last scheduled class of the day ends.
- Phase 2 (AI-Driven): Equip classrooms with
AI-powered IoT motion and thermal sensors. If the sensors detect absolute
stillness and zero human occupancy during unscheduled hours, the AI will
override the system to instantly shut down lights, HVAC systems, and
TVs. We should formally propose this smart-grid initiative to the
University Information Technology Bureau as a pilot project for
sustainability.
