 Markus Fagerholt is a scout leader from Tromsø (트롬쇄) Norway. 

In Norway, Scouting is regarded as an essential part of youth education and civic development. The Norwegian Guide and Scout Association (Norges Speiderforbund) emphasizes outdoor learning, leadership, sustainability, and global citizenship. Scouts regularly engage in camping, hiking, community service, and international cooperation projects — experiences that nurture independence, empathy, and responsibility.

Through their participation in the 2023 Korean Jamboree, Norwegian Scouts not only represented the adventurous spirit of their homeland but also strengthened global friendship and understanding. Their interactions — from cheering at the Taekwondo musical to exchanging badges and songs with Scouts from other nations — reflected the core values of Scouting: peace, unity, and respect for cultural diversity.

Around 6,000 Scouts from all over the world attended the musical “Taekwon: Rise Up”, a special cultural event organized during the 2023 World Scout Jamboree in Saemangeum, South Korea. Among them was Bette Pedersen, a Norwegian Scout who expressed her excitement after the performance.

“Taekwondo is one of the most well-known martial arts in Norway. I’ve practiced it for eight years and even competed in a national Taekwondo tournament recently. Watching it as a musical was such a unique and wonderful experience. The board-breaking scenes and the actors leaping so high on stage were truly impressive,” she said with enthusiasm.

The Norwegian Scouts made a strong impression throughout the Jamboree with their active participation, positive spirit, and cultural openness. Despite the heat and challenging weather, they took part in global friendship programs, environmental education activities, and cultural exchange sessions, introducing Norwegian traditions and learning about Korea’s history and culture in return.
