GINUE FRIEND : Yoonkyung Oh from Gwangmeyong Korea to Canada and Asia

 

My name is Oh Yoon-kyung. In Chinese characters, it is written as Oh (nation), Yoon (to shine), and Kyung (capital city). The name carries the meaning: “Be a person who shines like the capital of a nation.” This meaningful name was given to me by my grandfather.

I was born in Jeonju, the hometown of delicious food, and moved at a young age to Gwangmyeong, a city near Seoul. From elementary school through university, all of my happy memories were made in Gwangmyeong.

Gwangmyeong is a wonderful place to live. It has mountains that are perfect for light hiking, the refreshing Anyangcheon stream, and even the only natural cave in the metropolitan area. Seoul is just a five-minute walk away, and Incheon can be reached quickly and easily by subway. It is also very close to Anyang, where our campus is located.

For all these reasons, I believe Gwangmyeong is truly a great city to live in.

제 이름은 오윤경입니다. 한자로는 ‘나라 오(吳), 빛날 윤(潤), 서울 경(京)’으로 씁니다. 이름에는 “나라의 수도처럼 빛나는 사람이 되어라”라는 뜻이 담겨 있습니다. 이 뜻깊은 이름은 할아버지께서 직접 지어주셨습니다.

저는 맛의 고향인 전주에서 태어나 어린 시절 서울 인근 도시인 광명으로 이사 왔습니다. 초·중·고등학교와 대학교 시절까지의 모든 추억은 광명에서 행복하게 쌓아왔습니다.

광명은 가볍게 등산하기 좋은 산과 시원한 물이 흐르는 안양천, 수도권에서 유일하게 동굴이 있는 도시로, 정말살기 좋은 곳입니다. 서울은 걸어서 5분이면 갈 수 있고, 지하철을 타면 인천까지도 빠르고 편리하게 이동할 수있습니다. 또한 우리 캠퍼스가 있는 안양과도 매우 가깝습니다.

그래서 저는 광명이 정말 살기 좋은 도시라고 생각합니다.

학창 시절 제가 가장 좋아한 과목은 사회였습니다. 특히 사회 과목 중에서도 역사를 무척 좋아했습니다. 동아시아사를 공부하며 삼국이 얽히고 설킨 역사를 깊이 배우는 과정에서 한국사를 더 깊이 이해할 수 있어 매우 뜻깊었습니다.

역사에는 큰 흥미가 있었지만 지리에는 상대적으로 관심이 적었습니다. 이번 기회를 통해 지리에 대해 더 알아가고 싶습니다.
