My name is Alector Timas and I am from Cape Verde, a nation located on a volcanic archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa, known for its vibrant culture, hospitality, and natural beauty that shapes the identity of its people. The islands of Cape Verde influence not only how I see the world, but also how I face challenges and create projects.
2. My Connection to Cape Verde
Living in Cape Verde means witnessing a country of fascinating contrasts every day, with over 300 days of sunshine a year, white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, imposing mountains steeped in history and tradition, and small towns and villages brimming with music and community spirit.
Each island has its own unique character: Santiago is the heart of the archipelago, where life pulsates in the capital, Praia. São Vicente is cultural and bohemian, where music comes to life. Fogo, with its majestic volcano, symbolizes the strength of the Cape Verdean people, while Sal and Boavista are known for their endless beaches and tourism.
3. Experiences and Life Lessons
My personal and professional journey has been enriched by the experience of living, working, and creating on different islands: I got to know the urban and cosmopolitan reality of Praia, explored the cultural and creative intensity of Mindelo, experienced firsthand the connection between man and nature in Fogo, and witnessed the impact of tourism development in Sal and Boavista.
4. Brief History of Cape Verde
Cape Verde is an archipelago discovered by Portuguese navigators in the 15th century. For centuries, it was a strategic point on Atlantic trade routes. In 1975, it gained its independence, becoming a symbol of resilience and determination. Today, Cape Verde stands out for its political stability, rich culture, and the contribution of its diaspora spread across the world.
Being Cape Verdean means carrying an entire archipelago in your heart. It means being resilient, creative, and a dreamer, always with your feet firmly planted on the arid land and your gaze fixed on the Atlantic. I, Alector Timas, carry these traits with me and pursue all my projects with the spirit of turning ideas into reality.
