Ambassador Il-Pyo Hong, Incheon’s Climate and Environment Ambassador, is a prominent figure actively engaged in climate and environmental initiatives, drawing on his extensive experience as both a legal professional and a politician.
A former judge, he served as a National Assembly member representing Incheon and also held the position of Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Incheon Metropolitan City. From 2016 to 2020, he played a leading role in climate policy as the co-chair of the National Assembly Climate Change Forum, contributing significantly to the establishment of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the development of the 2050 Long-term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy.
In January 2025, he was appointed as Incheon’s Climate and Environment Ambassador. In this role, he continues to support the city’s environmental policy initiatives, leveraging his multifaceted career across the legal and political sectors to make a meaningful impact in the field of climate and environmental governance.
