Dr. Jang Mook Kang is a Professor in the Department of Information Security at the Graduate School of International and Information Security, Dongguk University, where he leads the graduate program in AI Security through teaching, research, and project development.
His research focuses on emerging security issues in artificial intelligence, such as AI hallucination and other vulnerabilities brought by advances in AI technology.
With a multidisciplinary academic background, Kang earned his M.B.A. in International Business (specializing in Internet Marketing) and a Ph.D. in Information Security Engineering from Korea University in 2005. In 2009, he completed a second Ph.D. in Political Science (specializing in Political Law) from Kyonggi University, where he studied the intersection of law, institutions, and technology.
Kang later founded AI-based venture companies in both Hawaii and Seoul, focusing on developing AI services and core algorithms. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of scholars, having supervised over 20 Ph.D. students in AI security. Among them, around 10 have become CEOs of AI companies, while others serve as assistant, associate, or adjunct professors at various universities across South Korea, continuing to collaborate closely with him.
Recognizing that AI systems inherit human biases and errors by mimicking the brain's cognitive patterns, Kang approaches AI security not merely as a technical issue but as a fundamental human concern. He actively collaborates with scholars in the humanities and social sciences, engaging in interdisciplinary research and public lectures to explore the deeper implications of AI in society."
