GG Mentor: Wednesday from Laos

Sabaiydee! Hello from Laos!

My name is Phoudchaleun Khamkhohomphanh, you can call me by my nickname Wednesday (which corresponds to the day I was born, according to Lao tradition). I am currently living in Busan, South Korea, and pursuing my graduate studies at the Graduate School of International Studies, Pusan National University.

During my time in Busan, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting friends from diverse backgrounds especially Korea. Coming from Laos, a landlocked country with no access to the sea, I really enjoy being in a city like Busan where I can visit the beach anytime I want.

Laos has a population of over 7 million, but not many people know much about it. In fact, many of my Korean friends tell me I’m the first Lao person they’ve ever met. This has inspired my passion for promoting Laos and its culture internationally. I actively participate in exchange programs and cultural events to help raise awareness about my country. For example, last year I took part in the ASEAN-Korea Round Festival and the ASEAN-Korea Youth Summit, which allowed me to learn more about Korea and other ASEAN nations.

Laos is rich in natural resources and unique cultural heritage. More tourists are now visiting places like Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Vang Vieng. Recently, the Lao Art Museum opened in Vientiane, showcasing elegant Lao artworks—highly recommended for anyone visiting. In the north, the stunning Kuang Si Waterfall is one of the country’s natural highlights, offering a glimpse into the serene and lush beauty that defines Laos.

I'm passionate about being a bridge between Laos and the world, and I look forward to more opportunities to share my culture and learn from others.
