Hello! While researching Cotopaxi Volcano, I learned that it's an almost perfect cone, rising to 5,897 meters, and features a unique blend of glaciers starting at 5,000 meters and a páramo ecosystem of highland wetlands and grasslands. I read that the volcanic ash enriches the soil for agriculture, but there are also risks like lahars, and tourism has become an important part of the local economy. Given this distinctive environment, how has your daily life, agricultural practices, or relationship with nature been shaped by living near Cotopaxi?
Hey! I’ve recently become really interested in Ecuador, especially its beautiful landscapes and cultural scenery. If you have some time, would you mind sending me a few photos of human-made scenery like local markets, streets, or traditional buildings?
Hi there!
It's springtime in Korea now. The mornings and evenings are a bit chilly, but the daytime is warm with sunshine—perfect for a walk. Cherry blossoms are in full bloom across Seoul, and people are out enjoying the flowers in parks and along walking paths In Incheon, the temperature is around 15 to 18°C, and it's such pleasant weather!
But we’re noticing that the cherry blossoms are blooming earlier each year. In Korea, in 2021 they came out ahead of schedule, and spring feels shorter overall. On top of that, we’ve had several days with bad yellow dust and fine dust, so people sometimes need to wear masks even when the weather is nice. Climate change is clearly affecting our seasons.
I searched about implementation of renewable energy projects. Ecuador's Ministry of Energy said it has six active energy projects underway, including four solar ones, and plans to gradually increase their energy output. Additionally, the government plans to invest $10.5 billion to build 37 new facilities. What percentage of Ecuador's total energy production currently comes from renewable sources? Additionally, are there plans to further expand renewable energy in the future?
I’m Min Gun Hee from South Korea. My country has beautiful mountains, vibrant cities, and four distinct seasons. I love learning about different places, and it’s fascinating how both Korea and Ecuador have volcanic landscapes like Hallasan and Cotopaxi! What’s it like living near the equator? I’d love to hear from you—let’s be friends!
