if you ask anyone in Taiwan right now, the wealth gap is probably the biggest problem we're facing. It feels like regular college students or fresh graduates have zero chance of finding a decent, affordable place to live. Meanwhile, you see a tiny group of rich people just buying up multiple properties and making a fortune off of them.
O (Overview)
I think a lot of this comes down to how our economy is structured. Pretty much all the money and development are going straight into the tech industry, especially chips and semiconductors. People working in that field are making tons of money, but everyone else—like in retail, food services, or factories—has been stuck with the same low wages for ages. Everything else like food and bills is getting pricier, but our salaries aren't moving at all.
P (Plan)
To start fixing this, the government should focus on the basics, like building cheap public housing or student dorms so young people don't have to spend all their money on rent. Maybe they could also put a legal limit on how much landlords can increase rent each year. On top of that, instead of only backing giant tech firms, they should give some financial breaks to small local businesses so they can actually give their employees a decent raise.
E (Execute)
As for what we can do, I think it starts with just paying attention and speaking up. We can easily use our own social media accounts to share posts about these housing and wage issues to make sure people don't just ignore them. Joining campus clubs that do volunteer work or help out in poorer neighborhoods is another good option. Even just checking in on friends who might be having a hard time financially makes a difference!
