During my short teaching practicum at Incheon Sindae Elementary School, I observed that the students demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as well as strong moral character. In English classes, for instance, students actively engaged in lessons conducted entirely in English alongside a native-speaking teacher, showing both high language proficiency and self-directed learning habits. Furthermore, the school has recently invested in new facilities such as a modern library and a sports VR room, providing students with diverse and engaging learning experiences. All faculty members treat students as valuable individuals and share a collective vision of guiding them with sincerity and care — embodying the true spirit of education.
내가 실습나간 학교: 인천신대초등학교
1.지리적 배경 인천 신대초등학교는 인천광역시 계양구 계산대로 133 (용종동)에 위치해 있으며 1998년 3월 1일에 설립되었다. 소재지인 계양구 용종동 지역은 생활여건이 비교적 주거지와 학원 등 교육 인프라가 갖춰진 지역이라는 점에서교육 환경 측면에서 유리한 면이 있다. 또한, 최근 인천시교육청에서 계양구를 교육지원청 관할구역 재편 과정에 포함시켜 이는 학생수와 인구구조 변화에 대응하는 행정적 변화로서 계양구 차원에서 지역 내 학교 교육환경의 개선과 통학로 안전, 학부모와의 소통 강화 등에 힘쓰는 것 또한 해당 학교에 영향을 미치고 있다.
2. 교육적 특성들 인천 신대초등학교는 1998년 설립으로 오래된 학교가 아니며 통학환경 개선 및 지속적인 안전 점검으로 건물과 시설이 비교적 안정적이며 이는 학생들의 교육 환경에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 제일 최근에 진행했던 학부모 및 학생 평가 사이트에서 5점 만점 중 4.2점을 기록할 정도로 교육적 측면에서 좋은 평가를 받고 있다. 2023년부터 2027년까지 인천광역시교육청이 지정한 자율학교를 운영함으로써 세계시민의식 획득 프로젝트나 타문화권의 학생들과 비대면으로 회의를 진행하는 글로벌 리더 수업 등 국제교류 활동 역시 활발하게 이루어지고 있다.
3. 장점 짧은 기간이지만 신대초등학교에서의 교육실습을 하며 느낀 바로 신대초등학교의 학생들의 기본적인 학습 성취 수준이나 인성적 측면에서 상당히 우수하였으며, 실제로 해당 학교에서 근무하는 교직원들 역시 대부분 그러한 반응이었다. 추가적으로 영어 수업에서 원어민 교사와 같이 수업을 하고 초등학생임에도 불구하고 100% 영어로만 진행하는 것과 같이 학업 성취도와 더불어 크고 작은 문제의 발생 빈도도 적은 모습을 보인다. 최근에는 거액을 들여 새로 지은 도서관 시설과 스포츠 VR실 등도 학생들에게 학습적 효과를 제공하고 있으며 교직원 모두가 학생들을 소중한 인격체로 대하며 모두가 공동된 가치를 바라보고 지도하는 참교사의 모습을 보이고 있다.
