Hello, my name is HoRim Shim, and I am majoring in Computer Education. My name comes from the Chinese characters ‘Ho’ (浩), meaning ‘wide’ or ‘vast,’ and ‘Rim’ (林), meaning ‘forest.’ My parents chose this name to encourage me to have a broad and kind heart, and to live a life as lush and full as a wide forest. On my passport, my English name is HoRim Shim, and I haven’t chosen any other English name yet.
I was born in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, and have lived in nearby Gimhae since I was about two years old. Because I have spent a long time at my family home, it feels like the most comfortable place for me. I have trouble sleeping well anywhere else, but whenever I go to my family home, I feel so at ease that I can sleep for up to 12 hours. Having been born and raised in Gyeongsang Province, I still feel especially happy and comfortable whenever I go there. For this reason, I often travel to places like Gyeongju, Daegu, and Pohang. When I retire, I hope to move back to Gyeongsang and live a relaxed life near the sea. My overseas travel experience is limited to the Philippines, Saipan, and Taiwan. I used to think spending money on travel was somewhat wasteful, so I didn’t have many diverse experiences. However, after feeling stuck in a repetitive routine, I realized the importance of new experiences. Now, I want to travel to various countries, experience their cultures and interests firsthand, and take on new challenges.
안녕하세요. 저는 컴퓨터교육과 심호림이라고 합니다. 이름은 ‘넓을 호(浩)’와 ‘수풀 림(林)’으로, 넓고 착한 마음을 가지고 숲처럼 우거진 삶을 살라는 부모님의 뜻이 담겨 있습니다. 여권상 영어 이름은 HoRim Shim이고, 그 외 영어 이름은 아직 정하지 않았습니다.
저는 경상남도 창원에서 태어나 두 살 무렵부터 현재까지 김해에서 살고 있습니다. 본가에서 오래 지내다 보니 본가가 가장 편안한 곳입니다. 다른 곳에서는 잠이 잘 오지 않는데, 본가에만 가면 마음이 놓여 12시간도 잘 정도로 푹 쉽니다. 경상도에서 태어나고 자란 덕분에 지금도 경상도에 가면 특별히 행복하고 편안합니다. 그래서 경주, 대구, 포항 등 경상도 여행을 자주 가곤 합니다. 나중에 은퇴하면 꼭 경상도로 내려가 바닷가 근처에서 여유롭게 지내고 싶습니다. 해외 경험은 필리핀, 사이판, 대만 정도로 많지는 않습니다. 예전에는 여행에 돈을 쓰는 것을 다소 낭비라고 생각해서 다양한 경험을 하지 못했습니다. 하지만 반복되는 일상에서 매너리즘을 느낀 뒤, 새로운 경험의 소중함을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 이제는 여러 나라를 여행하며 그들의 문화와 관심사를 직접 경험하고, 새로운 도전에 나서고 싶습니다.
