Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Song Geon Woo (North Macedonia) | 039
Matika Cave is a limestone cave, a representative karst landscape of North Macedonia. The inside of the cave is full of stalactites and stalagmites formed by melting limestone in groundwater or rainwater.
There is also an underground lake and an underwater cave inside the cave, which is characteristic of typical karst terrain.
Located in Kuklica, a small town near Kratovo, North Macedonia, it features a mysterious landscape with more than 120 rock pillars standing like humans. There is also a mysterious legend among the villagers, and when the groom called two brides at the same time, causing chaos in the wedding hall, the sky turned all the guests into stones due to anger.
In Korea, there is a season called Ipchun, which means spring from that day. It's been a long time since Ipchun, but it's been a long time since Ipchun, but it's been cold with snow continuing to fall. But the weather is getting warmer again these days. When the weather gets better, I would like to climb Baegunsan Mountain behind my school.
However, seeing that the season is not in place these days makes me think about climate change naturally. Unlike in the past, when it was warm in spring and cold in winter, the boundaries of the season are becoming increasingly blurred these days. It seems that this phenomenon is becoming more frequent and extreme to simply call it "weird weather."
In fact, I've heard that the rhythm of the season is breaking as the average global temperature rises, and the ecosystem, agriculture, and even our daily lives are affected in the aftermath. The mountains I want to climb right now, if these changes continue, I think that one day it may be different from what it used to be.
So these days, as much as enjoying nature, we are also thinking about how to protect it. Small practices such as saving energy or reducing the use of plastic in daily life are necessary, but in the end, I think the perception and structural change of society as a whole will be more important.
How do you feel about these climate and environmental issues? Can we turn the tide now, or is it too late?
This is the 24th season of Korea. Korea has a climate with four distinct seasons, but our ancestors split these seasons into smaller pieces and created the 24th season. The reason why the 24th season appears is related to the seasonal changes that occur as the Earth orbits the sun. Because the Earth's orbit and axis of rotation remain constant, the sun moves between the north and south of the equator, and the seasons change accordingly.
For example, they include "Ipchun," which signifies the beginning of spring, "the summer solstice," which signifies the middle of summer, "the autumn equinox," which signifies the abundance of fall, and "Ipdong," which is the beginning of winter. Each season takes place approximately 15 days apart, and played an important role in farming and living activities depending on seasonal changes and climates.
Even now, many countries, including Korea, refer to the 24 seasons of the season and use them for farming and living. It can be said that it contains the wisdom of living with nature.
This photo shows the sea from Baegunsan Mountain behind our school. Baegunsan Mountain is a mountain that you can see everywhere in Yeongjongdo Island, and many people like it because you can see the whole of Yeongjongdo Island when you climb it. If the weather is nice, you can even see Songdo.
I am Song Geon-woo, attending Haneul High School in Incheon, South Korea. I like math and science I want to get to know people in North Macedonia a lot.
