Investigated contents: Indonesia is located at the center of the Coral Triangle, making it the most diverse coral and marine life in the world. Barrier coral reefs and atolls are developed in the Raja Ampat, Sulawesi, and Bali, and they play a key role in the marine ecosystem. These coral reefs function as habitats and spawning grounds for a wide variety of marine life. A variety of species, including mantas, turtles, white herons, seahorses, sharks, dugongs, and dolphins, live here, serving as the basis for fishing resources and biopharmaceutical development. Coral reefs also play an important role in preventing coastal erosion, as they serve as natural seawalls to block waves from shorelines.
These days in Korea, the weather is getting warmer and more pleasant as spring has arrived. But sometimes we still experience a cold snap called 'Kkot-saem-chu-ui' (꽃샘추위), which literally means 'the cold that envies the flowers.' It's a short period of chilly weather that happens just as flowers begin to bloom. Because of this, people around me are still wearing long padding even though it's April. Daytime temperatures are usually around 15 to 20°C, but mornings and evenings can still be a bit chilly. It's a beautiful season to visit and enjoy the outdoors.
I think spring came later this year because the winter is longer than usual, and I can definitely feel the heat wave getting longer in the summer. It feels like the seasons are getting more irregular. Looking at these changes, I think real climate change is touching my skin. Maybe that's why I'm getting more and more interested in environmental issues.
The Indonesian government has set a goal of managing 100 percent of its waste by 2025, but experts warn that it will be difficult to achieve this goal due to a lack of political will and financial capacity. According to the Jakarta Post on Thursday, the government plans to manage the national waste by properly treating 70 percent of its waste, such as sorting, collecting, and treating it with raw materials or energy sources, as specified in Presidential Regulation No. 97/2017. The remaining 30 percent is set to be reduced through recycling plans.
The ministry also banned the import of plastic waste, strengthened regulations on paper waste, and encouraged companies to expand the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). These policies are expected to encourage companies to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to promoting sustainable development.
question: Is this Indonesian waste management goal having a big impact on the Indonesian people?
