1) “How important is Lake Nokoué to your community in terms of livelihood and culture?“
2) ”What do local people think about the future of the lake?”
3) “Have there been any recent floods around Lake Nokoué due to climate change?”
4) “Are there any efforts in the community to prevent or adapt to possible flooding?”
Through the world geography class, I was able to experience cultural diversity by communicating with people from various countries, sharing Korea's climate, and learning their culture, language, and history. Through the class, I was able to understand the impact of each country's climate on lifestyle, and based on this, I was able to learn how each country's traditions and modern life are harmonized.
In addition, I was able to have time to communicate what I learned about tropical climate in class with the people of Benin, a tropical climate region of Africa, and apply it to the climate and environment of the region.
In particular, the process of exploring how the historical background of a specific region influenced the formation of the current social structure and culture was interesting. For example, some countries have formed language and administrative systems under the influence of colonial rule, and some countries have developed unique architectural styles or traditional rituals according to their natural environment. By directly comparing and discussing these differences, I was able to understand the identity of each country more deeply.
In addition, it was an opportunity to realize how important it is to respect and understand various cultures in the global era. It was not just the knowledge learned through books or the Internet, but the experience gained by actually communicating with the people of that country came to be more meaningful. Through this, it was possible to reduce cultural prejudice and cultivate an attitude toward the world with an open mind.
In the future, based on these experiences, I want to continue to explore the culture and history of many countries around the world and to interact more actively with people from various backgrounds. This class is a valuable experience that broadened my perspective and gave me a new perspective beyond simple learning.
