Just added my Connectography Speech of Papua New Guinea!
Check out the video and let’s learn about Papua New Guinea together.
Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Bae Jihyun (Papua New Guinea) | 074
Mount Wilhelm is the highest mountain in Papua New Guinea at about 4509m. Various ecosystem layers are formed depending on the altitude. In the lowland rainforests from 0 to 1,500m above sea level, various evergreen and broad-leaved trees are concentrated, and rare plants and animals live there. In the middle forest range of 1500m to 3,000m, a temperate climate appears, and vegetation such as alpine rainforests appears. There is a lot of fog and moisture, so moss and bracken grow in abundance, and rare birds, amphibians, and reptiles live there. In the Alpine grasslands above 3,000m above sea level, there are few trees and grasslands appear. Alpine plants such as shrubs that have adapted to the cold climate grow there. The daily temperature range is large, and snow falls occasionally. Restricted animals and plants live in icy and rocky areas near the peak.
What are some of the endemic plants and animals that live on Mount Wilhelm?
I researched that some people climb Mount Wilhelm. Are there any environmental features people should be careful about when climbing?
How does climate change in Mount Wilhelm affect the local ecosystem?
Is there a policy currently in place to preserve the Mt. Wilhelm ecosystem? If so, what is it?
Cherry blossoms usually bloom from late March to early April and will be in full bloom by mid-April, but due to global warming, the flowering season is accelerating. As the weather gets warmer and the overall flowering season progresses, problems such as yellow dust and fine dust pollution are becoming serious problems. Korea is affected by global warming through these changes. How do you feel the effects of global warming in your country? I also have questions about Papua New Guinea's environmental policies. I researched that Papua New Guinea is rich in biodiversity, but it is struggling to balance environmental conservation and national development. According to my research, the country works with non-governmental organizations and community groups to protect biodiversity. Papua New Guinea is developing natural forest resources based on the forest policy established in 1991, and setting major environmental standards and logging regulations. I am curious about the specifics of these policies and the results.
