Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Jeong Ho Yeol (Burkina Faso) | 069
The Sahel is a point on the border between the Sahara and the savannah of northern sub-Saharan Africa.
Question 1: Do people in Burkina Faso live in the Sahel as much as the rest of the world? What is the difference in the way people live in the Sahel?
Question 2: Can you send me a picture of the highlands of Burkina Faso?
Currently, Korea's weather is experiencing a variety of weather unique to spring. Centering around Seoul, temperatures in early spring usually fluctuate between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius during the day, and can be somewhat chilly in the morning and evening. Sunny weather has persisted in recent years, but sometimes cloudy days due to increased clouds. In some parts of the country, it rained in some places, but mostly sunny days continue.
In addition, the forest area is continuously decreasing, and about 7% has been reported to have been lost in the last 30 years. It is mainly caused by timber harvesting, illegal logging, and agricultural expansion. Forest reduction causes soil erosion, which reduces the productivity of agricultural land.
Water scarcity is also serious. Burkina Faso's water resources are limited, especially struggling to meet agricultural and household water. Water pollution is also a serious problem, mainly due to material pollution caused by industrial and agricultural activities.
Burkina Faso has various policies and programs in place to counter climate change and environmental degradation. These efforts aim for sustainable development, with a particular focus on improving livelihoods and protecting the environment in rural areas.
First, Burkina Faso is promoting afforestation activities in cooperation with local residents to cope with desertification and deforestation. In particular, cases of using traditional farming methods to prevent desertification and create green farmland have also been reported in the northern regions.
In addition, Burkina Faso is making efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuels and mitigate negative environmental impacts by supplying clean energy. In cooperation with the Global Green Growth Organization (GGGI), we have implemented the Solar Grandmother Project to provide solar energy education to elderly women and install solar kits in each household to promote energy independence at the local level.
Do people in Burkina Faso be alert to environmental issues and try to solve them?
What policies are you mainly trying to solve?
