Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Song Eunjin (Algeria) | 007

I recently learned about one of Algeria’s unique landforms—the Hoggar Mountains. I found it really fascinating that Mount Tahat, the highest peak in Algeria, is located in here. What really surprised me, though, is that even though the Hoggar Mountains are located in the south-central part of the Sahara Desert, they still feature volcanic formations like lava domes and stratovolcanoes.

As far as I know, volcanic landscapes usually appear near tectonic plate boundaries or hotspots, so I’m really curious—how did such volcanic formations come to exist right in the middle of the desert?

I also learned about a place called Tassili n’Ajjer, which is said to be one of the world’s most important prehistoric rock art sites and is even listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Have you ever been there? If you have, I’d be so grateful if you could share any photos of the rock paintings in there. I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you!

I learned that Algeria shares borders with countries such as Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, and Niger. I wonder Algeria's diplomatic relations with these countries.

I learned that Algeria is a country with oil and natural gas reserves, whose industries account for about 90% of Algeria's total exports. As global warming becomes increasingly severe day by day, I think Algeria needs to seek for some other source of export. Are there any alternatives?

Algeria is the largest country in Africa. When I looked at photos of its tourist attractions and architecture, I noticed that they resembled European styles rather than African. I learned that this is due to Algeria’s history as a French colony. France actively constructed many buildings

and many of those structures remain untill today. After learning this, I realized that while the architecture may appear charming and historic, for Algerians, these buildings might also serve as painful reminders of their colonial past. What I found most fascinating about Algeria is its diverse climate. The northern region shows Mediterranean climate, while the southern part shows desert climate. Since these two climates have such distinct characteristics, I found it especially interesting that they coexist within a single country.

The weather in Korea has been unpredictable lately. It's getting a little warmer. The average temperature today is about 11 degrees Celsius, but sometimes it suddenly gets cold. It even snowed last month. When I see these strange weather patterns, I realize how serious global warming is. Korea originally has four seasons, but the seasonal characteristics of spring and fall seem to be fading away. I also studied Algeria's environmental policy, and I learned that they are working to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, increasing renewable energy and energy efficiency. What kind of renewable energy is the government focusing on developing?
