Gochang: Re-experiencing the Jamboree Excitement

International youth who participated in the World Scout Jamboree held in Saemangeum last year revisited Gochang and experienced the excitement once again. From October 10th to 11th, teenagers from four countries—Kenya, Mexico, the UK, and Indonesia—visited Gochang to engage in cultural tourism activities and commit to promoting Gochang County.

During their visit, the youth explored major tourist sites in Gochang, including Gochang Eupseong Fortress, the Gochang Dolmen Museum, and Seonunsa Temple, over the course of two days. At Seonunsa Temple, they enjoyed temple stay experiences and tea ceremonies. At the Dolmen site, they participated in making artifacts like crescent-shaped stone knives and arrowheads. Additionally, they had the opportunity to learn pansori (Korean traditional singing) at the Shin Jae-hyo Pansori Park.

After a meeting with Gochang County Governor Sim Deok-seop, the youth watched promotional videos about Gochang tourism and the 2023 Jamboree activities. They also engaged in an exchange event with local scout members under the guidance of Park Cheol.

The youth have been appointed as promotional supporters for the 51st Gochang Mooyangseong Festival and will be active from October 9th to 13th. Gochang County’s World Heritage Department head, Oh Mi-sook, stated, “It was meaningful to introduce Gochang’s beauty to international youth, and we look forward to their active promotional efforts.”

During the Jamboree last year, 4,640 participants from 54 countries visited Gochang Eupseong Fortress and Seonunsa Temple, enjoying various programs such as fortress trekking, traditional culture experiences, temple trekking, K-pop dance, and adventure forest experiences. The participants left with cherished memories and received a great response.
