My name is composed of the Chinese characters Joon (濬), meaning “deep,” and Hee (煕), meaning “bright and shining,” carrying the meaning of “a person who shines brightly.”
My legal name on my passport is Joonhee, but during my middle school years in the United States, I used the name Joonie for convenience of pronunciation.
I was born and raised in Seoul Seocho-gu, but my geographical journey has always gone beyond one place.
My experience of living in the United States during middle school allowed me to encounter a new living environment and educational system firsthand, which became an opportunity to broaden my multicultural perspective. In addition, traveling abroad with my family from an early age enabled me to experience the natural environments and cultures of various regions around the world. More recently, through an overseas teaching practicum in the United States, I was able to engage in actual classroom practice and develop a perspective that situates education within broader geographical and cultural contexts.
Furthermore, as a member of Arisol, the official student ambassador group of Gyeongin National University of Education, I conducted English campus tours for foreign students and also participated in the global booth program hosted by Anyang City, where I had opportunities to interact with students from diverse countries. These experiences demonstrated how culture and people meet within particular spaces—such as campuses, cities, and international events—and instilled in me the confidence to grow into a teacher who can transcend geographical boundaries and connect different cultures.
I also recently visited Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, where I was able to experience both the cultural spaces of the city and the surrounding natural environment. Architectural landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House impressed me as representative examples of cultural landscapes created by humans, shaping the identity of the city. At the same time, the vast natural scenery of the Blue Mountains and the Great Ocean Road revealed a grandeur that exists on a dimension beyond human life. These experiences were more than simple impressions; they allowed me to realize that the geographical characteristics of a region are formed through the interplay of human and natural elements. In particular, standing before the endless natural landscapes and feeling my mind open up, I came to appreciate once again that geography as a discipline goes beyond the understanding of physical terrain, serving instead as a field that deeply explores the relationship between humans and the environment.

저는 서울 서초구에서 태어나고 자랐지만, 세계 여러 곳을 방문하고 경험하였습니다. 중학교 시절 미국에서 생활한 경험은 새로운 생활환경과 교육 체계를 직접 경험하게 하였고 이를 통해 다문화적 시각을 넓히는 계기가 되었습니다. 또한 어렸을 적부터 가족과 함께한 해외여행을 통해 세계 여러 지역의 자연환경과 문화를 체감할 수 있었고 최근 미국 해외 교육 실습에서는 실제 수업 현장을 경험하며 지리적·문화적 맥락 속에서 교육을 바라보는 안목을 기를 수 있었습니다.
아울러 경인교대 공식 홍보대사 아리솔로 활동하며 외국인 학생들을 대상으로 영어 캠퍼스 투어를 진행하였고 안양시 글로벌 부스 운영에도 참여하여 다양한 나라의 학생들과 교류할 기회를 가졌습니다. 이러한 경험들은 특정 공간(캠퍼스, 도시, 국제 행사 공간) 속에서 문화와 사람들이 어떻게 만나는지를 보여주었고, 저에게 지리적 경계를 넘어 문화를 연결하는 교사로 성장할 수 있다는 자신감을 심어주었습니다.
저는 최근 호주의 시드니와 멜버른을 방문하며 도시의 문화적 공간과 자연환경을 동시에 경험할 수 있었습니다. 시드니 오페라하우스와 같은 건축물은 인공적으로 만들어진 문화 경관의 대표적인 사례로서 도시의 정체성을 형성하고 있다는 점에서 인상 깊었지만, 블루마운틴과 그레이트오션로드에서 마주한 광활한 자연경관은 인간의 삶과는 또 다른 차원의 웅장함을 보여주었습니다. 이러한 경험은 저에게 단순한 감상이 아니라 인문적 요소와 자연적 요소가 어우러져 한 지역의 지리적 특성을 구성한다는 사실을 체감하게 해주었습니다. 특히 끝없이 펼쳐진 자연을 바라보며 마음이 탁 트이는 경험을 하면서 지리라는 학문이 단순한 지형 이해를 넘어 인간과 환경의 관계를 깊이 있게 탐구하는 분야임을 다시금 느낄 수 있었습니다.
저는 고등학교 시절 이과 과정을 선택했기 때문에 사회 과목과의 직접적인 경험은 많지 않습니다. 마지막으로 들었던 사회 수업은 고등학교 1학년 때의 통합사회였습니다. 그러나 이러한 배경이 오히려 이번 수업을 통해 새롭게 배우고 성장할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것 같습니다. 사회과교육은 지리, 역사, 일반사회 등 다양한 분야를 포괄하며 개인의 시야를 넓히고 공동체 속에서 살아가는 힘을 길러주는 중요한 학문이라고 알고 있습니다. 따라서 이번 수업을 통해 부족한 부분을 채워가며 예비 교사로서 필요한 사회적 안목과 사고력을 기를 수 있기를 고대하고 있습니다.
저는 이번 사회과교육 수업을 통해 예비 교사로서 필요한 다양한 역량을 기를 수 있기를 희망합니다. 단순한 지식 습득을 넘어 사회과가 지닌 지리·역사·일반사회적 관점을 균형 있게 이해하고 이를 바탕으로 학생들에게 폭넓은 시각을 제공할 수 있는 능력을 키우고 싶습니다. 또한 수업을 통해 사회적 현상을 비판적으로 분석하는 힘과 더불어 공동체적 가치를 존중하며 지도할 수 있는 교사로 성장할 수 있기를 기대합니다. 모두 잘 부탁드립니다!!
