Do you know the Korean YouTuber GwakTube? His catchphrase is "EAT THE WORLD."
It perfectly matches his adventures, as he travels around the globe enjoying delicious food.
I’m just like him — I love delicious food and enjoy eating.
Therefore, I wanted to incorporate the value of food, when I was designing a new geographic teaching materials.
And the result was something I call the "EAT THE WORLD MAP."
Someone might say :
"Isn't connecting world geography with food a pretty common approach?"
"Isn't that something already done in many social studies textbooks?"
"Isn't connecting world geography with food a pretty common approach?"
"Isn't that something already done in many social studies textbooks?"
However, the EAT THE WORLD MAP has some unique features :
1. It explains why a particular food represents a country by highlighting geographical factors.
2. It incorporates YouTube videos and other media to help students understand the cultural and historical background behind the food&geographic.
3. It allows students to actively participate by editing the map or creating their own posts.
Thus, the EAT THE WORLD MAP boosts students’ interest and understanding in world geography.
This is a photo of the EAT THE WORLD MAP. I’ve filled in information for 15 countries.
(Mexico, Norway, France, Italy, Greece, Ethiopia, India, Russia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Republic of Korea, Japan, Turkey)
And Everyone can edit or create post~~👍
Through these features, students don’t just study a world map — they connect it with food, allowing them to engage with the cultural aspects of each region in a more interesting and meaningful way.
Without a doubt, It can serve as a highly effective tool for teaching geography.
Now, let’s dive in and enjoy it together!!
