Hello! My name is SeYi, and I am a student at an international school on Jeju Island. Jeju is a truly special place — it’s surrounded by the ocean, full of unique wildlife, and famous for its natural beauty. Living here has made me much more aware of the environment. I see clean air, blue seas, and green forests every day, and I’ve come to realize how important it is to protect these things, not just for ourselves but for future generations.
As a student, I’ve always been interested in how we can make a positive difference in the world. But it wasn’t until I started noticing more and more plastic waste around Jeju’s beaches that I felt a stronger sense of responsibility. I often go for walks along the coast or visit different parts of the island, and over time I began to see plastic bottles, bags, and fishing nets washed up on the shore. At first, I didn’t think too much about it. But the more I saw, the clearer it became that this is not just a small local problem — it’s part of a bigger issue that affects people, animals, and ecosystems all over the world.
This experience made me want to learn more about plastic pollution, and also to think about what I can do as a student living in Jeju. That’s why I chose this topic for my project. I hope that through this work, I can share ideas that inspire others to take action, whether that means using fewer plastic products, supporting community clean-up events, or simply becoming more aware of the issue. I believe that even small changes, when many people take part, can help protect Jeju and our planet.
