Actually I'm very interested in this question as well, with my limited knowledge in Korean it is hard to follow all the news here. Can you tell me about the energy production in Korea, what is the primary source at the moment? Is there support of the government to switch to renewable sources and is there climate activism here? :)
<Sion from Sejong High School : Nov. 22, 2024 >
South Korea relies on coal, LNG, and nuclear power, with renewables like solar and wind making up about 10% but gradually increasing. and the government plans to raise renewables to 30-35% by 2040 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, though efforts are limited. climate activism, led by groups like Youth 4 Climate Action, is growing, demanding stronger policies despite challenges with fossil fuel dependence.

Thank you Sion!! Will have a look into youth 4 climate action and their demands :) 10 % is a long way to go until carbon neutrality.. though a lot of countries are struggling with the switch, in part I think (at least that's the case in Germany) because the energy industries are very powerful and have too much influence on the government 🫠 hope the youth can shake up the governments around the world and make some action happen, because else by 2050 the world will already have changed a lot 🥲 does anyone know where the coal mines in Korea are? Or is the energy imported? Tried to find them on maps but it doesn't show me
Let's keep growing through global dialogue!!!
