My name, Hyeonjeong, is written with the Chinese characters ‘어질 현’, and ‘곧을 정’. It carries the meaning of “growing up to be kind and upright,” and it was given to me by my aunt. My English name, Mary, came from my fondness for rosemary—I chose it by taking the last part of the word rosemary.
I was born in Ulsan, and ever since my childhood, I have frequently traveled to nearby places such as Gyeongju and Gangneung. These experiences nurtured my deep interest in different regions of Korea. I believe that a region is not simply an administrative boundary, but rather a composite of many elements—its history, its natural environment such as seas, rivers, and greenery, the unique colors of each season, and the people who live there with their own stories. For me, traveling to a place means experiencing all of these aspects, which makes every trip a valuable experience. This is why I greatly enjoy traveling not only within Korea but also abroad.
Among my recent trips, the most memorable one was my journey to Gwangju. I have always had a strong interest in social studies, especially history and geography, and visiting Gwangju in the summer was unforgettable. The city was filled with the lush greenery of the season, and its significance in modern Korean history, particularly the democratization movement, left a deep impression on me. While I had previously only studied it through books and videos, standing in the very place where history happened gave me an entirely different sense of reality.
I also have a small routine whenever I travel: I buy new bottles of perfume and books. This way, I can remember my travels not only through photos and diary but also through scent and reading, which make the memories much richer.

제 이름인 현정은 어질 현, 곧을 정 자로 어질고 곧게 자라라는 의미를 담고 있으며 고모가 지어주셨습니다. Mary라는 영어이름은 제가 로즈마리를 좋아해서 ‘rosemary’에서 따온 이름입니다.
2. 저는 울산광역시에서 태어나 어린 시절부터 근방에 위치한 경주, 강릉 등으로 여행을 정말 자주 갔던 경험이 있어 국내 지역에 대한 관심이 많습니다. 한 지역은 단순히 행정적으로 분리해둔 범위에 그치는 것이 아니라 그 지역이 지나온 과거의 역사, 바다나 강, 녹음과 같은 자연환경과 각 계절마다 그 계절을 담아낸 색채, 지역을 이루고 있는 사람들과 그들의 이야기까지 다양한 요소들을 담고 있는 복합체라고 생각합니다. 따라서 한 공간에 여행을 간다는 것은 그 지역의 모든 요소들을 체험할 수 있는 소중한 시간이라고 생각하고, 그래서 국내는 물론 해외 여행도 매우 좋아하는 편입니다. 특히 최근에 다녀온 여행 중 가장 기억에 남았던 여행은 광주 여행이었습니다. 평소에도 역사나 지리 등 사회과 과목에 지대한 관심이 있었는데, 여름에 간 광주는 여름의 푸름을 그대로 담아낸 녹음이 가득했습니다. 또한 역사 중에서도 근현대사, 민주화 운동 부분을 매우 인상깊게 공부했는데, 글과 영상으로만 보던 장소에 제가 존재하게 되었을 때의 와닿음은 차원이 달랐던 것 같습니다. 또한 저는 여행지에 갈 때마다 새로운 향수와 책을 한 권씩 사는 루틴이 있는데, 여행에 대한 기억을 사진이나 글뿐만아니라 책, 향기로도 남길 수 있어 여행을 보다 풍부하게 기억할 수 있는 방법이라고 생각합니다.
3. 저는 중학교 재학 당시 가장 좋아했던 과목이 역사였고, 고등학교 시절 한국지리와 동아시아사를 수강했고 특히 지리 과목에 큰 흥미를 느꼈습니다. 여러 사회 과목 중 큭히 역사 과목의 경우 제가 살아오지 않은 시간들까지 생생하게 느낄 수 있는 과목이기에 가장 흥미롭다고 느꼈고, 또 ‘역사를 잊은 민족에게 미래는 없다’라는 말도 있을만큼 꼭 알고, 기억하고, 미래세대에 다시 전해주어야 하는 기록이라고 생각합니다.
4. 사회라는 과목 특성상 지리, 역사뿐만아니라 사회제도, 법 등 다양한 분야를 포괄하고 있고, 그렇기에 사회라는 과목을 잘 가르치는 것은 무엇보다 중요한 과제이자, 예비교사가 꼭 숙고해야 할 부분이라고 생각합니다. 사회라는 과목을 어떻게 가르쳐야 할지에 대해 배워보고 싶습니다.
My second favorite place is Munhak Stadium, located in Incheon, South Korea. It is the home stadium of the “Incheon SSG Landers” team and is known for having the largest electronic scoreboard in the country as well as a beautiful sunset view from the roof. Munhak Stadium is also famous for its “Station” cream shrimp. Munhak stadium is also known for their passionate cheering culture, where fans can enjoy various cheering tools and chants while also savoring delicious food.
또한 제가 두 번째로 좋아하는 장소는 대한민국의 인천에 위치한 문학경기장입니다. 이는 '인천 SSG 랜더스‘팀의 홈 경기장으로, 국내에서 가장 큰 전광판과 천장에서 볼 수 있는 아름다운 노을이 특징입니다. 또한 문학경기장에는 ‘스테이션‘이라는 크림새우가 가장 유명합니다. 한국의 야구장은 응원열기 또한 매우 뜨거운 편입니다. 다양한 응원도구와 응원법을 즐기며 맛있는 음식을 먹을 수 있는 공간입니다.
