Originally, the Macau Peninsula was an island, but over time, it is connected to mainland China due to sedimentation and reclamation projects, and is now a peninsula. For this reason, Macau has a topographical characteristic in which natural sedimentation and artificial intervention appear at the same time.
The naturally formed terrain, Kia Hill, is the highest natural terrain in Macau and is about 93m. It consists of granite terrain. On the top of the hill, there are Kia Lighthouse and Fort Kia, which are also important military and historical places. When you reach the top, the Pearl River, the surrounding islands, and downtown Macau are spread out at a glance, creating a spectacular view of the city and nature. Although it is a hill, it is characterized by a unique landscape that sees the sea and the city at the same time because it is close to the coast. In terms of topography, the weathering and erosion process of rocks can also be observed as a representative example of coastal hilly terrain.
The next unique topography includes the coastal cliffs and rock topography of the Coloans. Located in the south of Macau, Coloans Island has developed cliffs along the coastline. The Long Chao Kok Coastal Trail, located in the southeast of Coloans, is a about 1.2 km long trail that starts at the beach of Haxa and extends to the Coloans Bay Ian Cemetery. The trail runs along the coastline and is famous for being a place where you can appreciate various rock topography and natural scenery. In particular, the rocky topography formed by erosion by typhoons or waves looks like an exposed sea ice. Some of the rock layers are weathered to create honeycomb-shaped structures or small caves. Here, you can see the formation of coastal erosion topography, especially erosion belts and erosion cliffs. The cliffs of the Coloans area are mainly composed of granite, so they show strong properties against erosion, and various types of rock structures are formed on the top of the cliff due to weathering and biological action. During low tide, the erosion zone is revealed and spreads out along the coastline. It is an attractive place with the view of the South China Sea from the cliff, the unique scenery that combines the rock topography, and coastal vegetation. It is a more meaningful place because you can directly observe the formation process of coastal topography and understand coastal erosion and rock weathering.
On the other hand, Lake Namman in Macau, located between Taipa and the Macau Peninsula, was originally in the form of a lagoon or a small bay. However, through landfill, some of the sea was converted into an artificial lake like a lake. Now, it is used as an urban waterfront space. A similar place is Seoman Lake, another artificial lake located right next to Namman Lake. This place was originally a lagoon topography where seawater flowed, but it was also converted into an artificial lake through coastal landfill and seawall construction. The tidal flat area between Taipa and Coloans consists of tidal flats and lagoons that are revealed during low tide. However, likewise, in the early 2000s, the area was reclaimed to create the Kotai district, and now it has transformed into an urbanized zone with hotels, resorts, and commercial facilities. In the past, it was a place that functioned as a habitat for various ecosystems and migratory birds, but it is unfortunate that it is not possible to see much of its natural appearance through urban development and landfill. However, this topography of Macau is cited as a representative example of the interaction between natural topography and human activities.
Hi. I want to get a picture of a place where the natural topography of Macau is well revealed. If it's a picture you took yourself, I hope you can give me a brief explanation. I know that the Coloan region in the south of Macau is a well-developed coast with wave erosion and wave erosion. I want to get a picture of a coastal cliff or wave erosion. I'm especially curious about the rocky terrain with good natural erosion. And I also want to find out the appearance of urban artificial lakes such as Namman Lake and Seoman Lake. I'll ask you whenever I'm okay with it. Thank you!

Recently, the daytime temperature in Korea is over 20 degrees Celsius, and the weather is generally clear across the country. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the lowest temperature in the morning is 4-11 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature in the day is 17-25 degrees Celsius, which is similar to or slightly higher than the average year, and the daily temperature range is widened to more than 20 degrees Celsius. There are so many people who go to see cherry blossoms in full bloom in the spring weather. Cherry blossoms are blooming little by little near my area. However, from tomorrow, the weekend, it is expected to rain with typhoon-like gusts across the country. Typhoon-like rain and wind are predicted across the country due to the influence of low pressure coming down from the north of the Korean Peninsula.
Strong winds and thunderstorms up to 20m per second are expected nationwide, and late spring snow may fall due to temporary cold.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's seasonal observation on March 31, cherry blossoms were in full bloom in Daegu Metropolitan City and Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, on the 27th, which were 6 days and 8 days earlier than usual, respectively. In the central part of the country, including Seoul, the capital of Korea, cherry blossoms bloom slowly, which is related to climate change. The reason why cherry blossoms bloom in different regions varies greatly is because the temperature in March changed rapidly as if riding a roller coaster. Record-breaking high temperatures, with daytime temperatures rising nearly 30 degrees after mid-March, have accelerated the cherry blossom season in southern Korea. Recently, Korea has suffered greatly from forest fires. The annual average number of large-scale forest fires increased from 1.3 in the 2010s to 4.8 in the 2020s, and the average forest fire area has also expanded 7.8 times from 857ha (8.57 million square meters) to 6270ha (62.7 million square meters). The reason why forest fires have become large is because of climate change. Over the past 100 years, the average winter temperature in Korea has risen by 4℃, and precipitation has decreased by 17mm.
Macau holds the annual Macao International Forum for the Development of Environmental Cooperation and Development and Exhibition (MIECF) to introduce eco-friendly technologies and solutions and promote international cooperation. The exhibition covers various fields such as construction, finance, food and beverage, transportation, water resources, energy conservation and environmental protection technology, and waste management, and involves companies and organizations from all over the world. Through this, Macau is strengthening its position as a green business hub in Asia. In addition, Macau participates in the Taiwan District Green Finance Union, a cooperative organization to make the net carbon emissions in the Weigangao district to zero by 2050, along with Guangdong and Hong Kong. The union supports the government's policy implementation and investment, and aims to reduce carbon emissions by expanding the use of renewable energy and using resources efficiently. In addition, major hotels and resorts in Macau are actively introducing eco-friendly policies. For example, the Grand Lisboa Hotel implements the Green Policy, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, efficient management of energy resources, and minimizing waste, while the Sands China Resort implements the Green Policy, which aims to save energy, reduce food waste, and use sustainable food materials through the Sands Eco 360 strategy. Macau has also promoted a sustainable gastronomic culture since it was selected as a UNESCO gastronomic creative city. By receiving fresh seasonal ingredients from local farms, efforts are being made to minimize the carbon footprint, prohibit the consumption of endangered species, and expand vegetarian menus. These policies contribute to environmental protection and revitalization of the local economy. I wonder if MIECF feels like it has a real impact on Macau's daily eco-friendly culture or change of perception. Also, I wonder how the 2050 net zero carbon emissions target is being accepted by Macau society. And I wonder what do you think needs to be improved most urgently in Macau at the moment to achieve this goal.
