The Mexican Jamboree team, participating in the 2023 Saemangeum 25th World Scout Jamboree, has engaged in various security and academic experiences to understand the reality of the Korean Peninsula's division, as reported by the Korean Unification Future Center on August 8th.
Gyeonggi Yeoncheon County announced that on the 11th, they organized sightseeing visits and cultural experiences, including the Jaein Waterfall, for the Mexican JamBerry team staying at the Korean Unification Future Center.
During their stay in Yeoncheon, 326 Mexican youth and leaders who participated in the "2023 Saemangeum 25th World Scout Jamboree" promoted the UNESCO city of Yeoncheon, known for its pristine natural environment, and participated in various experiential activities.
Earlier, County Mayor Kim Deok-hyun, upon hearing the news of the Mexican JamBerry team's visit to Yeoncheon, held meetings with relevant departments, ensuring full support for the team.
County Mayor Kim Deok-hyun spared no effort in providing support to help the Mexican participants feel intimately connected to Yeoncheon as a city of peace on the border and experience Korean culture during their stay.
The Mexican JamBerry team visited Yeoncheon's representative tourist spots, including Jaein Waterfall and the Jeongok Prehistoric Museum, before moving to the Korean Unification Future Center.
On this day, the Mexican JamBerry team received an introduction at the Korean Unification Future Center about Mexico's support during the Korean War, where they provided supplies and medical assistance, contributing to the country's participation in the conflict.
Carlos Peñafiel Soto, the Mexican Ambassador to Korea, who visited Yeoncheon to encourage the JamBerry team, expressed gratitude to Mayor Kim Deok-hyun and other officials for the warm welcome extended to the 326 Mexican members.
Mayor Kim Deok-hyun pledged abundant support for the Mexican JamBerry youth and leaders during their stay in Yeoncheon, wishing them a healthy return. He also expressed hope for continued opportunities for mutual development between Mexico and Korea following this visit.
Due to the influence of Typhoon 'Kanun,' designated as the 6th typhoon, the World Scout Federation announced the early evacuation of all JamBerry participants from the campsite the day before. Consequently, starting from 10 a.m. on the specified day, the participants boarded over 1,000 buses and departed to various locations in Gyeonggi Province.
The Unification Future Center, located in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, a border area between North and South Korea, is a specialized institution for unification experience and training under the Ministry of Unification, established in 2014. It can accommodate up to 472 individuals, with facilities including 4-person rooms (88 rooms) and 6-8 person rooms (12 rooms).
