Connectography Speech for World Environment Day 2025 | Yoon Jihyo (Romania) | 029
Transylvania Plateau
It is a plateau that lasts about 300–500 m above sea level and flows through the Mures ̦/Maros, Somes ̦/Szamos, Kriss ̦/Körös, and Olt. It has an inland basin surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, so it was naturally cut off from the outside. Although it is named a plateau, it is actually a complex terrain mixed with flat land and hills, and various appearances such as a valley by erosion or a narrow valley formed by a fault line appear inside the plateau. Because of this erosion topography, agriculture is done in flat areas and hilly areas are sometimes used as pastures. There is little forest because it is composed of weakly resistant ancient rocks. In addition, since it is affected by its location in the Carpathian Mountains, which have characteristics of a continental climate, annual precipitation is low, less than 24 inches.
Salina Turda
It is a salt mine in the Durgău-Valea Sărată area of Turda, the second largest city in Cluj County in northwest Romania. It was a salt mine that had been mined since 1,200 years ago, but it is said to have been developed as a theme park in 1932 after salt mining was over.

March is noticeably warmer than February, with an average temperature of 10-15°C. In the southern regions, there are many days when the temperature rises to around 20°C, and in Seoul, there are many days when the temperature exceeds 20°C during the day. However, the temperature drops in the morning and evening, and the daily temperature difference is large. The difference can be more than 10 degrees. There is not much precipitation overall, but especially in early and mid-April, it may rain along with the cold spell. Dry weather warnings (watches/warnings) are frequently issued, increasing the risk of forest fires and fires. It is also the time when cherry blossoms, forsythia, and azaleas bloom nationwide. Cherry blossoms in Seoul usually start blooming in early to mid-April, and in the southern regions from the end of March. As the average temperature in Korea has increased by about 1.8 degrees Celsius over the past 100 years, abnormal climates have emerged. The frequency of forest fires is increasing due to the combination of dry weather and strong winds in the spring and April spring, October, and autumn seasons of November in Korea. In addition, the yellow dust in spring is not only becoming more frequent due to the effects of desertification and industrialization, but also very bad stages occur frequently. Also, as heat waves, tropical nights, heavy snow, or snowstorms are repeated, unpredictable weather patterns are causing several problems. This climate change is gradually raising the global temperature, and it is bringing about another abnormal climate and ecosystem destruction. Human reckless activities are the cause, and it is time for everyone to take actions to protect the environment together. Romania is implementing various environmental policies in accordance with the norms of the EU, which joined in 2007. First, policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions are being pursued in the industrial and energy sectors. To this end, we are intensively researching and developing programs to expand the supply of renewable energy and improve energy efficiency. Second, the national climate change response plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across sectors such as agriculture, industry, and transportation. Romania is also implementing policies to promote recycling and resource circulation, setting up legal and institutional arrangements for the efficient disposal of waste. In particular, industrial and household waste management is being intensively carried out. In addition, various measures are being implemented to manage air and water quality, protect nature, and maintain biodiversity.
