Hello, this is Naeun from Ginue. I'm very interested in Denmark, US, and Azerbaijan. I want to give a present to my friends in this country. I've thought of a lucky pouch from Korea.
It looks like this! I hope they like it :)
So here are my questions to people in Denmark, US, and Azerbaijan.
- In Denmark, is there a tradition of giving gifts on New Year's or other special occasions?
- Are there any items or symbols in Denmark that represent good luck or blessings?
- In the US, are there any gifts people give to wish others good luck?
- If I were to choose something meaningful to put in a lucky pouch, what would be special to you?
- Are there any traditional gifts in Azerbaijan that symbolize good fortune or happiness?
- What kind of small, meaningful items do people in Azerbaijan like to receive as a token of goodwill?
Hi Naeun! I’m Aksu from Baku, Azerbaijan 🌸
ReplyDeleteThat’s such a nice question — in Azerbaijan, we believe that gifts should carry good meaning.
One very traditional and meaningful gift here is a carpet 🧶. It’s not just decoration for us — it represents home, warmth, and family. Even small carpet items are given to wish someone comfort and happiness. It actually reminds me of the ginkgo tree in Korea 🌳, which symbolizes long life and strength — both are about roots and endurance.
Another really popular gift is the göz mincigi (an eye) . People give it to protect loved ones from bad luck and negative energy. You’ll see it everywhere in Azerbaijan — as jewelry, home decor, or small charms. It feels very similar to the Korean lucky pouch (bokjumeoni) and the four-leafed clover ☘️, since both are meant to bring good fortune and protection.
I love how our cultures are different but still share the same ideas about wishing happiness and safety for others. I’d really love to meet you one day, and if you ever visit Azerbaijan, I’d be so happy to show you around my beautiful country 🌟
