This is a blog space of Sion Lee from South Korea
Hi! I’m Sion Lee! :)
I’m a student of Sejong Global High School. My school is in Sejong, South Korea, but I actually live in Daejeon. And when I was little, I spent my life in Indonesia. There, I met all kinds of friends with various nationalities. Maybe that’s why i got interested in geography and cultures.
I usually spend time searching cultures around the world through youtube. and these days, I’m interested in German cultures! I first fell in love with Germany about a year ago as I watched the beautiful old buildings in Lüneburg on a video. Still, I’m trying to know the cultures and current issues in Germany. thanks!
Hi Sion :) nice to meet you! Here's Joelle from the group chat - I'm a geography PhD-student from Aachen in Germany (also a very cute town), but currently living in Seoul. Think it is very cool that you got your passion for geography from meeting people with various nationalities :) a very geographic spirit!
ReplyDeleteWhich issues are you most interested in? If you have questions, feel free to ask!
As far as I know, most pressing issue in Germany at the moment is finding a new government. At the beginning of this month, the German goverment fell apart because the three parties that were governing it were arguing with each other. I read that it was mostly because the liberal party proposed to safe money on expense of the social support money, and the social party and the ecologic party didn't like that. But it was just the last drop into the barrel... they were not getting along very well, the parties were too different. Now there will be new elections beginning of next year, and until then the government can practically do nothing.
Other issue is that the right-wing parties start to gain more support again, which is super sad to me. They are still a minority though, and I hope it stays that way. Fingers crossed that the next election is not a chance for them to sneak into the government. After the election in America I was in a bit of a shock, hopefully the radical parties do not take over Germany as well. That is why geographers are so important - making openness and curiosity win over racism and fear :)
Other very pressing issue is of course climate change. But I feel like Germany is so busy with other stuff right now that this topic is being pushed into the background .. in the past there has been support for getting solar panels or an electric car and such, but right now I am not sure whether there is any progress to make companies or households more sustainable. And we have sadly already passed the 1,5 degree Celsius global warming that the Paris agreement wanted to prevent :(
So much for everything that came to my mind now, sorry for the long text!
What's your opinion on these topics? And what are Korea's current issues?
Many greetings :)
